Icon9 Shreaded Timing Belt

Hello folks, it came across a situation that I am a tad puzzled about.
What would cause this to my poor timing belt?

Wow. Holy shyte. Taking bottom covers off should reveal what it going on. Some sort of failing guide or similar is my guess.

Re: Shreaded Timing Belt

What's left appears it was walking back towards the block. If that was the case it would be a cause for the belt to become damaged.

Re: Shreaded Timing Belt

Yes, I took the whole thing apart to prepare for the new belt.
I looked at the DIY and discovered that I needed to do some adjusting to the adjusting nut as I put the timing belt on.
Youtube didn't show this!

Back in my "what the @#$%..." thread I asked what the noise from the timing cover was, now I have my answer. The timing belt was not tensioned...(I guess) I noticed that it sounded like it was flopping around in there.

Re: Shreaded Timing Belt

Same thing happened to me. In my situation it was a broken bolt that held the water pump in place. I caught it just in time though. Looks like you did too.

Re: Shreaded Timing Belt

Yup, I youtubed it first!

I left the upper cover off and watched the belt as the car ran. the belt is still close to the edge of the cam wheel and the flops s bit as it exits to the main pulley.
