Take a guess.

My lude was already built when I got it. 95 vtec h22a1 manual. Car runs fine no problems and is very strong. Parts list: c/a intake, 70mm sk2 silver t/b, sk2 pro line intake, sk2 cams stage ?, sk2 cam gears, under drive pulleys, 4/2 header w/greedy exhaust. Motor was out has all urethane mnts. Any guess on hp. Looks like pro build to me. Haven't looked at ecu yet.

Re: Take a guess.

The tune is what makes all those bolts ons go zoom.

Dig into the computer to see what's there and then you'll know more. Or you could put it on the dyno...

I'm assuming whoever built it before you went with a skunk2 Pro1 camshaft thinking it would be the most streetable and not require a significant bump in compression to benefit. That's why my estimate is a little lower.

Re: Take a guess.

Could be all I know is someone put a chunk of change into it, and it runs fine. This will be my dd when I'm done with the body mod and paint. Need the mpgs so I can afford the price of this prize. This is my first import so real green about a lot of it. But I'm going nuts trying to get started on it.

190whp if you're lucky.

The motor has bolt ons and cams, not really built.

Re: Take a guess.

Sounds like tuning is the thing to do, from some of the research I've done didn't seem to costly. I have some friends in the city that have a dyno and build track cars so I'll let them tune it. This way we can see who came closest and have some kind of prize. I know there is a store at one the malls that sells jelly beans. How about that Lindso.

Re: Take a guess.

bolt ons is not a Pro build by any means ...

If it had internals done like pistons/rods etc in the bottom end, or in the Head , Porting/valves/springs etc thats more of a "Pro Build" IMO

post up some pics of the car would like to see it tho, sounds fun either way, Dyno HP isn't the only factor ...Ive raced cars with more dyno HP then me and won...... and Ive raced cars with less HP then me and lost ...... Driver/tuning/suspension is a HUGE factor

Re: Take a guess.

I hope it's a proper harmonic damper not some crappy eBay solid underdrive pulley, otherwise the motor will eventually tear itself apart from the vibration. Likewise if it's a cheap-o air intake and header then they could actually reduce performance from stock. If it has high mileage and hasn't been looked after then a few ponies can be lost from the drop in compression, carbon build-up etc., although it sounds like it's been treated well.

I'm betting on only minor gains (<10hp) until the ECU has been properly tuned to take benefit from the bolt-ons.

Not trying to be pessimistic, just a voice of reason. I thought mine ran really well until I started replacing a bunch of worn out parts and cleaning everything, now it runs even better... no bolt-ons at all so far.

A proper tune aint cheap. Now if $1500 aint a lot to ya, yeah it's cheap.
See these modern engines have computers that know combustion efficiency is top priority. Emmision reduction is the goal. Ok, so we get the computer to think a little less about that and more about more powerful combustion by using an OBD1 because it can be convinced easier than the OBD2, which a learning computer.
So you get the computers mind right and it holds intake valves open longer, allows exhaust to escape faster etc, but then you still have the egr and the O2 sniffers telling the computer to burn off all the extra or cut back on the intake. So that too is an obsticle Widebody. Once you get all the emmisions junk figured out or eliminated, then you can go about life of building your engine the way you would your classic cars.

Most folks spend lots of time and money for little to no gains. These cars arrived engineered very efficiently. About as good as it gets so to speak. So you have to keep that in mind when you undo what those little guys in lab coats and propeller hats had come up with. You can actually end up with less than the car had to start with unless a proper understanding takes place, a well planned and executed process is undergone and money is more than spent, but is invested

Re: Take a guess.

A lot of good info from you guys. The damper looks oem under drives only on p/s and alt. As for the tune, based on the $ value of the parts be worth a tune. Will try for some pic's soon. Only shooting for dependable dd with some spunk at this time. Like to use what is already there for now. Thanks

Re: Take a guess.

If you use factory size tires (15/55), you'll find it rides real nice on the daily commute compared to 50's that many use.

Re: Take a guess.

That post had me think back a long way. I can't recall having a car with stock tires and wheels. Like the kids that have there dreams of there cars I read on this forum the kid in me will not grow up. To understand me, back in 80's a bunch of car guys said every thing had already been built and you couldn't do anything different so I chopped the top on a 36 Ford p/u cab used some parts from a 34 2dr sedan and came up with a 34 Ranchero. They said that was a new one on them. What I'm saying is just because something is doesn't mean it has to be. Just trying to fit in a little and have some fun. Thanks

Re: Take a guess.

Aint nuthin' wrong with a rat fink rod.

Wasn't trying to lecture before. You seem like you have resources and know how most here wouldn't even know exists except on tv. So figuring you wanted to go places with your car nobody else has gone I'd just tried to explain the basis of Honda engineers designs when conceiving a 200hp 4cylinder that met US emmision standards.

Funny you mention Ranchero.

^^ I hope to do something like this with a 91 prelude someday.

I have a blast with my stock size eagles on the twisties, and enjoy a wee bit more comfort zooming down the not so smooth interstate.
