Battery light flickers

I was driving in to work this morning and was stuck in traffic, and all of a sudden my light for the battery start to flicker, slowly light up too, but even came fully on. I got to work checked my connections to the battery, They were fine, and the water was as well. What else could it be?

Re: Battery light flickers

Which year car do you have?

Could be the alternator has an issue. Could be your belt is too loose. Could be your green plug isn't fastened proper.

An auto parts store will likely check your alternator at no cost. Buy a quart of oil, a honda sticker or some $5 tool from them as a thank you.

Re: Battery light flickers

The plug that fastens to the alternator. In the 3rd gen they'd not fasten correctly causing the battery lamp to flicker... There's a rubber boot that covers it. If that don't fit right it can cause the plug to back out a little. Like I said it usually affected the 3rd gen cars

That'll do it...
Never heard a pig swill... But if he has a loose power steering belt I reckon he'd swill...

Re: Battery light flickers

^^lmao

Yeah Byk pretty much covered it. Check all your connections for corrosion and ensure they're tight. Then, check for loosness where the wire harness connects to the alternator (As stated, it's a green plug covered by a black piece of rubber). Then, have an auto parts store like AutoZone test the voltage coming from the alternator. They will do this for free, but as a THANK YOU to them, at least make it worth their while to help you out by buying a quart of oil or a car loofa or something.

Re: Battery light flickers

It's most likely the regulator. I've been having problems with AutoZone's alternators too, and one guy completely overlooked the fact that I had a lifetime warranty and tried to sell me a damn regulator for like $50 more than the whole alternator itself! The regulator is internal, BTW. So don't let anyone try to sell you one of those unless you feel like taking stuff apart.

Thanks for the "Heads-Up". I bought an AZ Alternator and a couple of times, my Radar Detector, which has a Low Voltage Warning, has beeped to say that my voltage had fallen below normal. I know all my connections are good, as well as my belts and their tension because I cleaned and/or changed everything about 6 months ago. (Although I probably should go ahead and check them again).

Just hoping that it isn't going bad on me. I have gotten a couple bad ones from them right out of the box. I MADE the person run this one through their bench test 3 times before I would buy it. I told them that it's too much of a pain in the a$$ to have to swap it out if it is bad.

Re: Battery light flickers

Thought of this thread today when getting a new battery for my work truck.
The folks at advance plugged a device to my ecu that saved all my settings. Start truck and all my radio stations, levels etc were still there.

I bought a 39mm impact socket from them. I'll probably never use it but it was only $5.95.
Also bought the dude who swapped the battery a pop.

If you are interested in having your own, Here are a couple I found on Amazon for $12, but I bet I could order the parts from Mouser or Digikey and make them for under $3

Amazon.com: Keep It Clean SS4500 Setting Saver Delux Battery Memory System: Automotive

And another one for $8

You may find a use for that 39mm... You just never know...

And that's real nice of you to buy the guy a "pop".
