95 prelude si charging problems

Having charging problems. Replace the alternator and battery rebuilt alternator. New battery. Will be fine for a while then after driving for some time car decides not to charge can't figure it out fuses are all good. Tested alternator according to service manual everything checks out good. Could it be the computer? Someone please help.... It's a 95 prelude si. 2.3l Doncaster non vetec all stock

Re: 95 prelude si charging problems

There's a part in the fuse box called the Electrical Load Detector. It regulates field strength in the alternator and might be causing your problem. Use your Google-fu and you should find more info.

edit: You're sure it's not charging, and that it isn't something sticking on when you park it? Does it die while you're driving it?

As I'm driving the lights will start dimming the speedo will stop working the radio will stop working. The gauges will start dimming the tac will stop working. Car will get sluggish. Then it'll get spurts of power I'm wondering if it's the comp at first now I'm wondering if maybe a bad ground somewhere

Did you check that Advance Auto didn't give you a bad alternator? I once swapped out 4 of their reman units in my old truck. Was not happy about that.

Re: 95 prelude si charging problems

The First one ended up being bad. When I went to get the replacement I had them test it first before I took it. I'm think I agree that t might be that electric load detector like you said. I can't think of anything else it could be other then that comp or a bad ground some where. Didn't get to touch it this weekend cuz I was working at the swap meet for my job. But I'm off Tuesday so imma look into it
