Switch Compatibility?

I hesitate to post this, 'cause it seems like the kind of thing that should be easily searchable or else on the resource thread, but I've found nothing. What other Hondas have switches that will fit into the spots in our cars? I can't bring myself to pay $30+ each for them on ebay so I'm planning a junkyard trip.

Re: Switch Compatibility?

What switches are you looking for?

I ask because the little panel of 3 to the left of the steering wheel are one size, and there's like 2 or 3 more sizes down between the armrest and the shifter in the 94-96 models, not to mention the weird fog light switch in the 92-93's.

Re: Switch Compatibility?

I have a '95. I've sent away for some e36 fog lights that I want to add because the factory headlights throw so little light to the sides that I fear finding a toddler in a dark neighborhood by touch. From what I understand the proper switch is hard to get 'hold of, though, so I'll settle for any toggle switch I can add to one of the four slots below the armrest. I can get creative to remove whatever label is on it.

I also want to add a toggle switch I can use to interrupt the 12V signal to the power antenna when I don't need it up, which is essentially never because Miami's FM spectrum is a wasteland. Was considering a cruise control switch since I could wire it to light up when the antenna was raised, but it sounds like that wouldn't fit.

I've seen the sunroof switch relocated to the console where the fog switch belongs. I don't relish the thought of extending that wiring harness, but it would open up a space for another cruise switch and let me open it while using the other hand to open the windows. Does it fit there or did whoever I see get clever?

Re: Switch Compatibility?

I don't know how that'd work because the OEM fog switch sits flat, whereas the sunroof, cruise, and dimmer switches have a slight curve to them that match the curve of the dash. It's a good idea though. I think your best bet would be finding one that fits one of the four slots right below the armrest lid-those seem like the most universally sized.

Re: Switch Compatibility?

Right. I've called a few salvage yards, but Preludes are too rare now. No one has one on the lot. I'm sure other Hondas have the same switch size, but unless I can find out which it's going to be a long hard search.

Re: Switch Compatibility?

Yeah I went through the same thing until a JDM fog switch popped up. Your best bet would be to swing by a U-Pull-It and pocket a couple switches from a Honda and Acura that look like they'd fit, and see if you can't make something work.

Re: Switch Compatibility?

Looks like the console sunroof switch comes from an Acura CL and is available under $10. Guess I'll have to keep my eyes open for the other switches. This junkyard trip is going to be an adventure...

Re: Switch Compatibility?

You can cross match stuff George by going to hondapartsnow.com, finding the particular part # and typing that into the search bar.

Car-parts.com is a national junkyard store. Used parts across the country.
