Picked Up a '94 Prelude for $300

Hey guys, have a few questions for you...

So a guy I work with had a '94 Prelude with the H22 he wanted to sell to me for $300. The timing belt broke and he says he was idling as turning a corner when it happened. It's a little bit banged up on the outside but I thought there might be a chance the engine would be okay, besides, the rims on it alone are worth more than $300.

Anyway, I was wondering what my chances are this thing is going to run when I put that timing belt on, and if not... how much would I be able to find a used engine for this and how common are they? Snapped a pic of the car as it sat before I picked it up below.

he was in idle going around a corner.. just curious was he going down hill? it could run after you change the belt but it also could have bent valves

Well it's a 5 speed so I assumed he just had the clutch in. Just hoping throwing a belt on is all it's going to need.

And no static it's 2 piece :P

Re: Picked Up a '94 Prelude for $300

I broke my belt taking off from a stop light and threw another one due to a failed auto tensioner within 3 weeks of one another, and somehow had no damage. SOOOO yeah you have a chance. Perform a compression test when you have it together again.

Nice score! Do a compression test on it of the numbers all come back alike then you should be fine.

Re: Picked Up a '94 Prelude for $300

Thanks guys. I planned on swapping if need be. Only real noticeable damage is on the front fenders, but a pair of aftermarket ones here were only $150 and there isn't really any rust anywhere. Just hoping for some luck and when the belt's on it's fine.

Re: Picked Up a '94 Prelude for $300

Post more pictures and what wrong with the one they have now. Looks like the guy did a lot of work on that prelude. It even has intersection lights in the fenders that's always a plus In my book.
