so confused on which motor to swap into my new toy

just recently picked up a 96 prelude so 2.3 dohc. I need more speed. recently totalled my over400 HP Lincoln ls.love my prelude immensely. 160 HP isn't enough. plans are for whatever motor I buy to twin turbo it. i'm at a complete loss as to what would work best for me. I've always been a mustang guy and am trying to glean as much info as I can. any suggestions?????

You have 50% of the cylinders you used to have. Try being a pro boxer and then getting in the ring with one arm.
That arm has to be busier than a two peckered dog with a mile of fence posts. Be prepared to spend a lot of dough.

Here's a good place to start.^^^

Re: so confused on which motor to swap into my new toy

Twin turbo? Maybe if you plan on throwing in a V6 swap.

The inline 4's don't need twin turbo, there is only one exhaust bank, not 2 like in V8's. Just slap on a decent sized turbo that will give you good response (less turbo lag) and decent high end power. If you are planning on BIG power, be ready to spend some money, the H series of engines have FRM (Fiber Reinforced Metal) blocks that don't hold power well, and need to be re-sleeved with some iron sleeves. You could opt for the F series motors with iron blocks. The F20 head has super airflow.

Dart B20 block, B16 head. Larry Widmer ENDYNE parts...

150whp/litre and runs on 91 octane. Now that's what it's all about, right?

Re: so confused on which motor to swap into my new toy

I would like to hear more about this 400hp Lincoln LS.. which model did u have? was it a v6/5spd combo, the automatic v6, or the automatic v8?? was it turboed? I used to have a hard on for the Lincoln ls's for the longest time, then they started getting some age on them I started having to work on them at a shop I used to work at before I went to work for Toyota, they're junk. if u got 400hp outta one, without swapping in a modular motor and doing a damn good bit of fabrication and wiring, then major props to u sir,

Re: so confused on which motor to swap into my new toy

it was my mad genious friend that worked his magic at his shop. it was turboed. I only had to get another 120hp to reach roughly 400hp. I thought I loved that ride till it got totalled. I completely switched gears and bought a prelude for almost nothing and have the leftover insurance money to go ballistic on my 96 prelude. is there any benefit to those what basically equate to electric ''superchargers'' that are supposed to cut down on turbo lag. I've already built a 1970 Bronco so I have my go anywhere vehicle, now I want to eat new mustangs and camaros

Re: so confused on which motor to swap into my new toy

Some mustangs and camaros have 600+ hp!!!
Many have 300+!!!

What's your budget? Figure $15k-20+ to do what you say you want to do. Then when it blows up, you get to start again...

If you have money to spend you can get 1000whp from one turbo on an h22, if you have the money to spend......

iron blocks? frm sleeves have been provin to be just as if not stronger the the iron sleeves of the F, and I dont get what you mean by (they dint hold powed well). he dosnt have to get his block resleeve unless he is running forged pistons. tbe 9:1 comression ratio in the H23 is just find for turbo. and in order to make good HP (300+) he can get taller rods or H22 oem pistons for a higher compression but in order for that to work he'll need a VERY good tunner. he can also run a good turbo cam, port and polish the head and intake manifold. Im not trying to be a jerk btw. its just hes getting partial information. to the OP what kind of HP are you looking for? Are you conserned with the trans and the problem of getting thr power to the ground? and electric turbos dont work from what Ihave been reading

I'm definitely planning on installing a LSD in my trans. if mines still in good shape I'll keep it if not I'll rebuild it.

Don't forget about Mahle Gold Series forged pistons. There's no need to sleeve the block and he could still use forged pistons while building the rest of the engine. OP you can raise the compression and go supercharger or lower it and slap on a turbo(single of course). I would suggest turbo unless you plan to spend even more money to achieve what you're wanting.

That is a very good point. I did forget about those. And you don't have to lower compression to turbo. 9.1 is a good compression number and high compression turbo builds make alot more power than lower comp can.

for $15k you can buy a stock STI or Evo thatll stomp on 300hp muscle cars. For $5k more you can mod either one of those to stomp on the 600 HP muscle cars OR you can spend that on your lude lol. You have lots of possibilities explore them
