starting problem

I went to the dentist this morning and the car ran great all the way there and back. got home and needed to leave and it wouldn't start. the fuel pump primes but theres no sound of anything even remotely turning in the engine bay. ive checked all the fuses and nothing. so ive been poping the clutch to make it run (runs fine) but after I shut it off same problem. kinda hard to pop a clutch on a hill at the end of your driveway So what could it be... I know how to run a 5 speed. push the clutch in turn the key. tried grounding the starter and it didn't do anything. the starter isn't even trying to turn the engine. the battery is good. all lights and everything work. something I noticed that's new is my ABS light and the oil and battery light are on when I turn the key to start and hold it. not sure what kind of trouble code this might be or if it even is one. im about 60% sure the ABS light is new. I know when you leave the key forward for radio and AC stuff without the engine running it gives you oil and battery light constantly. the SRS isn't lit im truly baffled. I use to have a 00 accord lx and it didn't have ABS so im wondering if you preluders know about this. clutch feels fine shifts fine. just wont start... no clicking noise from the starter either. im not sure if this time of year is bad on starters or what. my girlfriends 97 chevy Malibu LS had a starter go yesterday and so did my john deer rider. now my car wont start....

Re: starting problem

Sounds like the ignition switch is failed or failing.

Re: starting problem

My car had the same symptoms, I could turn the ignition switch and nothing would happen and I'm 95% sure my problem is also a failed ignition switch (or the wiring between ignition switch and ignition side of the starter). The only difference between your problem and mine is the fact that all I need to do to start my car is just throw it in neutral (put the e-brake on of course), turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, pop the hood, and jump the ignition side of the starter to the positive side of the battery. Works like a charm every time for me.

Re: starting problem

And where is the ignition switch located?

did some research and found where its located and how to fix it. But any temp solutions? Its a real bitch to push a car up a hill for a clutch pop just to go to work... especially all by yourself on a dirt driveway lol

Re: starting problem

The problem is obvious: don't go to the dentist no more.

Or you pissed off the "starter fairy". All the lights are diagnosis checks before the car starts to ensure the systems are working, they are supposed to turn off after the car is idling.

Replace/repair the main relay first work from there
