value and price

Having a difficult time pricing this lude.
It has 122,000 on the body and 44,000 on the motor.
Car is in primer, no rust, interior work needed.
I am trying to figure out how much to purchase the car for.
He is asking 5500, is this good bad or just plain ugly?
Thanks fellow ludeheads

Re: value and price

I agree completely. They are rare around my parts, so I don't want to miss an opportunity.

Is it a good price based on mileage engine/body?

Re: value and price

In a word, yes. Rust free is rare. And if the car is 'rare in yiur area' it's a sellers market.
Too rich for my blood but you will have to pay top $ for a real nice 4th gen.
I'd show the owner 50-$100 bills and say take it or leave bro.

Re: value and price

Primer black? Don't remember that color option available in a 4th gen.

A rust free prelude doesn't command 5500. The owner probably bondo-ed as much as he could reach, sanded to look factory painted that ultra rare black.

Start at 3500 and work down. The guy didn't even tell you if the cel is on/off, if it was a direct swap, or which year he put in. Unless there are reciepts for the swap, they usually hurt the sale price. Check it out and decide. Some runs at the highway, local speed and idle and see if you like it.

Not trying to take away from your find, but a true find is original paint, 120k and all service intervals at the local stealership.

Re: value and price

There is a lot of interior work that needs to be done as well.
3500 is prob what I will offer him.
Any more input is appreciated!

Re: value and price

kelleybluebook.com??????

you never stated what year, motor, transmission was........ but i will assume a 96 5spd H22 for the insane listing price he has........... although i dont know where you live....

i got my 95 si h23a1 auto for $2250 with 107,xxx miles on body and engine, and only 7,xxx miles on the rebuilt transmission. body in pretty good condition, id say 6.5 out of 10, and interior in amazing condition, id say 9.5/10, im in new jersey.

Seems pretty beat down though, its not painted, and interior needs work?? theres gonna be more behind it, so to be on the upside, ill value it at fair condition.

i would find the value of the actual mileage on the body $2395
then find value for the mileage that the motor shows $3920 (excellent is $4770)

factor in the repairs needed around
paint: plastidip $350 paintjob: maaco $400-1000
interior: time finding replacement used parts/fabrics, plus costs.....
whatever else is involved.

i would offer $1500

tell him how i did it, say it was you of course, and how "you" figured it out, and thats that... i wouldnt offer a penny more for it... 5th gens go for $5500, not 4th gens, unless they are next to immaculate.

again, this is all for my area, where you live it might be valued more... do your research, think about it, and figure it out. dont offer random numbers... especially if you havent driven the car yet. thats stupid, buying a car is an investment. make sure your investing in something that is gonna be worth the money you invest into it. dont throw money away. my cars in better condition, so if you wanna give me $3500 ill drive halfway to meet you, and you can buy mine, and ill buy another prelude for less than $3500 in better condition than mine is, for real. **** you can take both my preludes, 95si DD, and 92si parts car, for $4000, throw in an extra $500 and ill give you the 5spd swap parts....

good luck with your buy, i hope you didnt already buy it for that price though...

Nooooo.... I haven't. I have drove it, about a half mile. There was some weird fluttering from the exhaust. He said it was from lack of back pressure. Thanks for the advice!

Re: value and price

In my opinion, even if everything other than the paint/interior is perfectly straight... that is still way above what it should go for. I don't think I would pay that much for a completely stock, mint condition Lude.

Hmmm, no back pressure... From what exactly? Exhaust leak? Exhaust valves not seating? Bird poo in the map sensor? Please, just don't give the man what he's asking.. Unless you post pics....
