Icon9 Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

My wife had been adamant about keeping the automatic, so I get with Steve at HMotors and buy a 92-95 JDM H22 VTEC, Auto Lsd trany, POF ECU, PON TCU and downpipe.
Now I have found out my local tuner cant tune cars with auto tranys.
The OBD2a to OBD1 harness for a auto tranny is $250. A manual tranny one is only $75.

After telling the wife all of this, now she says that she is ok having the car be a stick.
This would be fine if she would have told me this on Monday before I ordered the motor, tranny, and other stuff$$.

I could have gotten the complete swap over with lsd manual tranny for around $300 more. I am going to call Steve on Monday, but I think I am stuck.
Oh well, things could always be worse. Maybe like driving a Smart car or Pink Prius or something emasculating like that.

My Faded red(not pink) Tercel is not an very manly car. I add a quart about every other tank of gas and it gets 37mpg back and forth to work. Simple fuel injection and it gets around the same Mpg as cars 20 yrs newer. You would think that after 20 + yrs of advancing EFI technology they would be further along. It almost seems like they don't want the cars to get alot better MPG.

But wait

Unless they've shipped your order, you can change it. If it's shipped... well..

Dude, auto isn't all bad. You've said it's your wifes car and she wants auto. Well fate did it's thing.

You on the other hand should feed the pig and spend those coins on a kick @$s 90 or 91 and rid yourself of that tercel. Perhaps a crx is in your future.

Re: Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

I will find out on Monday, but I am pretty sure that it has shipped. I definitely will be leaving it stock. I will be working my full time job and my part time one for quite awhile to play catch up with what I have already spent on my LUDE.
My next build will be on my 95 Tahoe 5.7. That build will be one that should not hold any suprises like this one has. It will be cam/heads/intake/fuel pump/arp bolts/headers/x pipe/true dualls=Done for another 200k. It will be perfectly streetable with about 60 extra hp. No obd harness swaps, ecu/tcm or anything like that. Just simple TBI. The only sensors it has for FI are coolant temp, o2, and MAF. Simple and straightforward!

Re: Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

just deny the shipment when it gets to you lmao. thats what i would do if it was already shipped.
just walk out of your house when the are unloading it off the truck, and be like hey hey hey, what are you dropping on my front yard?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? get the hell out of here.

they might try a few more times, or contact the seller, but eventually the seller will contact you, and you can either tell the truth, or ignore him completely. you should get a refund.

Thanks for the advise ProjectPrelude95. That gave me a good laugh. It was a stupid mistake, but one I made. I'll just live with it. I am not into Karma or anything like that. I just try to do right by people. 50 years from now I wont care if my Lude was a stick with 250hp or auto with 200.

Although, I would love to build a turbo frankenstein motor the next go around.

An automatic allows you to hold your lady's hand while zooming down country roads with the top open and the wind all flying through your scalp (where hair used to be) and giggling like a couple of recycled teenagers. It allows you to focus on those little joys in life that go un noticed when distracted with gear changing. The sounds, the smells, the cool spot you feel when passing over a creek.

If it will still chirp the tires going into second gear, then that will help.

It is not too bad, I haven't had a speeding ticket in about 4 years. Radar/laser detectors are legal here in Colorado.

Re: Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

I was able to change my order. Steve totally rocks. Use Hmotors and you will not regret it.
I am expecting my H22a W/LSD manual tranny complete change over to get here around the first week of Sept. I am so totally stoked.
I have already gotten most of the other misc parts for the auto to manual swap. I am still trying to make up my mind about the clutch. I am keeping it mostly stock.
I am thinking about doing the phenolic intake spacer, ss header, balance shaft delete, and maybe a short ram or cold air intake, poly motor mount inserts and p28 tune. Not sure if I need more than a stock clutch. I hope to figure that out this weekend.

I just want this motor to last a long long time. My Second job is paying for this. For what they pay me I am going to have to work for many moons to finish paying for all of this.

The stiffer the motor mounts, the more vibrations you'll feel in the car. Figure about 75 will get that power to the ground but not shake your fillings loose.

DiamondLude has a 95 part out thread going with some 75a durometer motor mounts, never used at a DEEEEEEP discount over new.

I was thinking about the energy suspension motor mount inserts for <$40 on ebay.

Re: Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

I now have the energy suspension motor mount inserts, greddy O&M clutch, wires, rotor, clutch, brake pedal, manual dash cluster, water pump, manual tensioner conversion.

I am just waiting for that magical call from my delivery guy about when to be at the house to get the motor.

I have a ton of wire schematics and install guides.

One thing I am not sure about is what are the measurement about where to drill for the tranny mount. I saw a good picture, but I would rather not just guess, then have to fight it.

I still gotta get t belt, b belt, hoses, and am thinking about a hondata phenolic spacer.

I will post updates soon.

I also have gotten a clutch hard-line, clutch master cylinder, clutch reservoir, and the thing that is on the other end of the hard line. I cant think what it is called.

Re: Ordered Motor,Trny,ecu... Then wife changed her mind about Automatics

I installed the smaller brake pedal and clutch pedal and master cylinder last weekend.

Anyone interested in changing auto to manual should take note

Dont remove the brake pedal/ accelerator pedal assembly.
Take out the cotter key from the bolt that runs through the brake pedal.
Unhook the spring from the brake pedal with some needle nose pliers.
Loosen the bolts holding the assembly down otherwise the bolt that goes through the brake pedal wont come out.
Use 2 14mm wrenches to take the brake pedal bolt out.

Reverse steps for assembly
BAM
I am thinking about installing my manual spedo cluster, otherwise I am just waiting for my motor to come in on the 30th.
I cant wait.

It is going in. I just got my h22a and 5 speed dropped in this weekend. Now I get to hook everything back up and wonder where the extra parts belong.
