I Blew The Head Gasket! Things I'm Going To Do!

So like I said I blew the head gasket on my 93 Si. I have the H23A1, while I'm fixing the problem I was also going to be doing alot of the stuff from the DIY section. I will be doing the power stearing delete, the AC delete, cruise control delete, relocating the battery to the trunk. I'll also be deleting the ambers out of the tails, and painting the inside of the headlights black, I'm going to try and do the corners black also. Is there anything else yall can think of while I'm under the hood? Oh yeah I'm thinking about putting a half radiator in from a Civic, what are your thoughts on that? I'll be posting pics of everything as I get them done.

Really? All I have read was that they worked the same or better than the standard radiators that come in Ludes. I'm not going to boost my lude or anything like that, I was just trying to open up the engine bay so it looks cleaner.

if your living place is hot, full radiator always works better

If you dont live somewhere that is constantly very hot, you will be fine with a civic half rad

Re: I Blew The Head Gasket! Things I'm Going To Do!

Good your deleting AC, because you may as well if you're going half rad.

Like above said, great if you live in a colder climate...southern states I would imagine it would suck though. I heard H22's like to run a little hotter...not sure how well the half rad would keep up if you say, tracked your lude. If you think about it you're decreasing your coolant capacity.

You should also look into a slim fan(s).

Re: I Blew The Head Gasket! Things I'm Going To Do!

Ok Yall I have decided that I'm going to research the half radiator some more before I make up my mind. I have ran into another problem yesterday. I took the cams out and the timing belt just to find that I'm missing a few teeth on one of my cam gears... should I go back OEM or aftermarket? what do yall think? I do have a budget, so please keep that in mind.

Are H22 and H23 cam gears have the same amount of teeth? I have a bunch of H22 parts I've been neglecting to put up for sale, but if you can find if they're similar, I'll hook you up so you're not out $100 for new ones.

That would be great if you could hook me up, but what I was really looking for is if anyone knows what the advantage is of maybe having those adjustable cam gears? Are they really worth the money or are the stock cam gears fine?

So I have decided that I'm going to fork out the money for a Port and Polish kit and I'm going to be making a DIY about how to do those at home for all of you who love working on your own engines.

I have a Del Sol half rad in my 5th gen and have 0 problems or issues with overheating. I also live in Florida, and I have my A/C still.

The only thing they do is adjust timing, which you would only really want to be doing if you have modified the rest of the valvetrain or put pistons in with different compression. I've heard that you can use them to shift your power band up or down a couple hundred RPM but have never heard or found any additional info to back that up.

Re: I Blew The Head Gasket! Things I'm Going To Do!

Sweet so I'm going to go back with the OEM style and just adjust the timing with the distributor. Thanks everybody, I have pics of everything I have done so far. Head, exhaust manifold, and intake manifold is off. Holy **** at the carbon build up n my pistons... Does anyone know how to remove that without scratching or scaring the pistons?

Re: I Blew The Head Gasket! Things I'm Going To Do!

Ok everyone I'm sorry I haven't posted pictures, but I will get a few up tomorrow. I have cleaned up the head and most ofnthe intake, still have to get the welds off the EGR ports so I can get the plugs out then back to the automatic parts washer. I have to clean the throttle body and exhaust manifold. If anyone knows someone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that has a header for sale I would much rather have one. Still need to try and get all the carbon off the top ofnthe pistons without scratching them, so if anyone has tricks please help.
