Question

So I popped my hood after driving to the post office I was going to start on maybe a wire tuck or something because I am bored but than I noticed a leak that is coming from what I think is my thermostat housing. My question is what would be the reason for the leak is there some kind of gasket that could have went bad or could it be the actual housing and what should I do from here. All replies will be appreciated.

Re: Question

the only way is to wash your engine clean and try to see&check where it comes from

or then just start to patch things up blindly

Re: Question

Well I cleaned the engine because for awhile I thought my power steering was leaking because fluid was everywhere on the driver side but I cleaned it up didn't find a leak over there. But I changed oil and before I noticed it was leaking so I figured that I'd just do an oil change and out a new filter well a few days later I look under and the pan is wet but you can see its seeping down from by the oil filter but I don't know if its the filter or a different problem.

Re: Question

If its leaking from thermostat housing my guess is that the therostat Is bad? If the thermostat doesn't open, coolant doesn't flow through and pressure builds up.

Re: Question

Not sure if these are the same set up for the oil filters as the 5th Gen, but I know a very common problem with those is the o-ring that seals the oil cooler (behind the oil filter, just one bolt holding it on) going bad. Maybe check that, although when mine went bad it dumped a LOT of oil...it was easy to tell where it was coming from

And the t-stat is behind the lower rad hose and the block, not the upper hose. That's simply where the upper rad hose connects to the head. Yes there's a gasket behind there that could be leaking.
