H22A with F22A intake?

Okay, So here is my question. I found the FITV on my 93 'lude Si. But it's not where it should be on a H22A. I found the engine code saying it's an H22A, but it looks like it has an F22 intake manifold on it...is this possible? If so, things are more screwed up then I thought.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Got any pics?

The entire F22a intake mani wouldn't bolt up to an H22.... or at least the lower runners physically wouldn't bolt up to he H22 head.

But all the upper plenums and interchangeable. H23 and H22 are the same size, but F22's are smaller, so there's a CHANCE you have an F22 upper plenum bolted onto H22 lower runners.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

I'll run out and try to get some PIC's. My phone doesn't take great pictures.

I may be confused on where to find the engine type. I found it etched onto the engine block, says H22A-some numbers. But the intake looks like that of a F22, at least going by the helms. I'll try to get some pictures for you. Is there a tall tell sign to see if it's H22, H23, or F22?

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Ouch, not only do you have the intake mani of an F22, you have an entire F22a1 HEAD. On a H22aX block. All H22's are supposed to be DOHC, not SOHC.

As you can see it's POSSIBLE to put an F22 head on a H22 block..... but just doesn't make any sense to. Usually ppl do the opposite; H22 heads on F22 blocks. So maybe you got the remaining parts-car, assembled

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Well, that's peachy. The car still has some get up, but not where I want it to be. So my best bet is to find the H22A1 head then? In the mean time, I should route the vacuum hoses and what not as if it were a F22? I went over the vacuums the other day, but something didn't seem right.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

I'll look around, I'm in the midwest so plenty of junk yards. If I can find the head I'll grab it. So, again i'm not a car person, but is it still vtec, or no?

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Are you sure the 'F' just isn't so dirty it looks like an 'H' in H22a? Cuz personally I can't make out anything but the 'A' in that third pic..

Unfortunately it's not VTEC. The components of the cylinder head are what will make it a VTEC or not.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

I'll tripple check, but I've looked at that thing close to a hundred times to make sure. If it is an F, then problem solved. If it's an H, then down the rabbit hole I go.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Okay, I was mistaken...all is well(ish). It is in fact a F22 block as well. I cleaned the engraved area very well and discovered what I thought to be an H was an F. So, back to working on my idle problem, after I re-route the vacuum hoses.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Well that's slightly better news for you, since it means you don't have a frankenstein'd engine of a stupid combination.

Re: H22A with F22A intake?

Yes, I'm relieved of that. I plan to find me a better engine at some point, but this will do for now. I just need to make sure all my vacuum lines are connected and accurate.

Questions, does it really matter if they are connected correctly at the IM? Or is it okay as long as whatever needs vacuum from the IM is getting it? I swapped a few around to match the F22A1 diagram, but it seemed to make my idle problem worse. Instead of between 1k and 2k revs, it would rev up to 3k and down to 1.5 k alternating.
