Icon5 sunroof wont go up?

Im having trouble closing my sunroof, I actually have to push it up with my hand pretty hard about half way of it sliding to get it to close all the way. Any suggestions?

Re: sunroof wont go up?

Maybe the motor that moves it is on it's way out, teeth getting blunt for example? If it ever busts completely I'm pretty sure you can close it manually with an Allen key, you can in the third gens, I don't see why it shouldn't in a 4th. Good luck with your problem! :)

Re: sunroof wont go up?

What kind of grease did you use ?
There is an access plate you can remove and spin a bolt that is something like a 14mm or so if you are in a jam...

Re: sunroof wont go up?

Yeah the car comes with a tool so if the sunroof motor goes out you can still close it. I really appreciate the feedback from everyone. I'm a new prelude owner and have completely falling in love with my 95 lude with jdm h22a vtec

Re: sunroof wont go up?

Id like to know this too, mine only when it is colder out do I have to push it up out of the roof and it will slide back on its own. When its warm though it work like a charm. Mine could be because the douche who had it before me painted right over the seal though:/

Re: sunroof wont go up?

^^^ i think OP was referring to closing the roof.

when it's cold and won't open...it's like when your doors get frozen shut. just needs a little bump. You can prevent this with some silicone grease on the rubber seals.

OP: if motor seems strong, CLEAN the tracks WELL. Make them shiny with q-tips and wd-40. then re-lube with lithium grease. This solved every slow or chatter issue i've ever had with a roof.

Re: sunroof wont go up?

I had same problem. When wanted to open i had to press opening button and hit the back of the sunroof pretty hard and it opened. No problems with closing tough. I greased track and now it works fine.

Re: sunroof wont go up?

I've had multiple issues with my sunroof on my 94.

Slow moving sunroof: lubing the tracks with some sort of liquid(ish) lube works/helps (WD-40, White Lithium grease, etc...)

Stuck/difficult to INITIALLY move out of closed position: lube the outter rubber sunroof seal. Clean the body portion of the sunroof opening.

My sunroof is having a very SIMILAR, if not exact issue. I can hear the motor working...the sunroof looks/sounds like it wants to move, but no movement.... In my situation...I have a broken arm that holds/connects to a spring in the slider assembly on the passenger side.

In my case, #24 broke, and #21 came loose which causes another arm to not be able to move. I have a horrible fitting 5th gen sunroof in my 4th gen so its easier to remove than the original solid panel roof.
