Halo Projector Lights Malfunction

My father and I recently purchased a non-registerable 1996 Honda Prelude with the purpose of cannibalizing it for spare parts for my own 1995 model Prelude. The car came with a set of what I believe to be Sonar SK3301 PL92 Halo Projector headlights. They work fine, with regard to the lamps, however, when both the high and low-beams are connected to the car, the high/low switch on the steering column acts as if the high-beams should always be running. Because of this, both high and low-beams run continually when the lights are turned on, with no method to disengage the high-beams.

As far as I am able to tell, this is happening because both lights share a common ground, and the circuit is being completed for the high-beams when it should not be. When I disconnect the high-beams from the vehicle, the low-beams work as they should, and the switch on the steering column displays that it is not stuck in the "high-beam phase".

I am only a student, so my knowledge in this isn't the greatest, but I'm hoping to glean some information to solve this problem, else, I'll be putting my stock headlights back in. Can anyone give me some advice on the issue? I have considered pulling the headlights apart and taking a look at the wiring inside, but I'd prefer to be able to more definitively say what the problem may be before doing so.

Sounds like you "may have" discovered the problem (the common ground), so now its time trouble-shoot what is/isn't the actual problem.

Have you disconnected the ground between the high and low beams, and gone from there?

Not as of yet. I am in the International Baccalaureate Programme in school currently, so I'm studying for the twelve exams I have in the next two weeks. I'll be working on my car tomorrow, so I will then I presume. I will have to get back to you on the results of that.

Thank you for the reassurance though.

Re: Halo Projector Lights Malfunction

Put red tint over the headlights so you can.....

Easiest way to make all the lights stay on is to look for a GM hi-lo eliminator kit. Makes gm trucks have lows and highs on when you flash the highs, when regular setup shuts down lows when highs are on.

Before taking off anything look for a harness and relay kit spliced into the headlights.
