Brake problems

I accidently got oil in my break lines and now the brakes wont work, should I just replace the brake master cylinder or should I go ahead and replace the lines, calipers and master cylinder? Im just not sure exactly what all would be messed up.

Re: Brake problems

did you add accidently add it in thru the master cylinder? try bleeding your brakes front and back untill theres the oil is gone. if it doesnt work then maybe change your master cylinder. if you add it accidently chances are your master cylinder pistons are gone.

Re: Brake problems

I was putting more brake fluid in my master cylinder and I didn't realize there was oil on the inside of the funnel. And I did try bleeding the brakes a lot, I think it might have rotted out the cylinders

Delete the prop valve? Why would you want your rear brakes to lock up like crazy?

Yabah dabah dooooo

I keep shop towels with my funnel.. notice singular. If you are a fast food conisseaur, grab a pile of napkins and store them with your funnel. Then use them religiously.

Seriously, I have a kit in each of my vehicles...an auto tranny funnel in the auto car, a cut off coke bottle for brakes with brakes written all over the duct tape covering, a cut off nyquil bottle for motor oil, a cut off mt dew bottle for the green liquid and an actual 99 funnel for manual tranny fluid. And shop towel goes through each before storing.

Re: Brake problems

Are you going to keep the ABS ? If you end up needing a new ABS pump, I'll be getting rid of mine soon.

A brand new MC from Honda is only 170ish, Calipers are pricey though, you can rebuild the calipers for VERY cheap with Honda seals. Basically you can rebuild everything for very cheap, and not have to go through Ebay junk.

Things you need off the bat to perform a rebuild are circled in Red, there are also some crush washers you would want to purchase, they are very cheap, pick up around 15 of them.

Circled what you need in red

Master Cylinder (brake).jpg I cant find the individual parts to do a rebuild for the MC rod and piston.. Just get a new one.

Brake Line Rubbers.png Rubbers I would assume are toast, or will be after a while, you could also go for stainless steel braided hose. Firms up the pedal feel. The crush washers you need are in there as #33. lines are 23, 24, 25, 26

Front Brake.png Front brake requires minimal stuff, as does the rear brake caliper. Rear Brake.png

Very easy job to perform, just time consuming, but it will help you to fully understand the system (if you don't already). I was confused by it till I tackled it. But if you got the funds, hey, go ahead and get all new stuff, but since you are considering eBay for your brakes, you got my radar up now...

these #'s all correspond with http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Re: Brake problems

Exactly how do you flush oil out of a brake system? I mean the solid brake lines need to be replaced too right? It would be nice if the oil had a heavier weight, so flushing would be easy.

defintelyask a mechanic or two. IF they can fix it, don't think is going to be cheap....

Re: Brake problems

There was just a little bit of residual in the funnel ? Or a lot ?
You didn't pour any in your ABS reservoir did you ? WEll, don't matter, the system feeds off the main res anyways and draws it into the ABS res.
At that point you may as well get a prop valve from an "S" model and some new lines.

Maybe some compressed air to flush out lines before new rubbers go in ?

Elias_ninefive.... here VVV

Smoking hmm? The pads might not be releasing.. Did u use any grease down there, or just change the pads ? Are the rubber boots in good condition ?
I learned the hard way once and my rim itself got SO hot I couldnt even touch it, I saw some smoke, I stopped right away fearing the tire would spontaneously combust! Was because of one of the guide pins was not sliding freely... High temp silicon is good frend
