Icon9 main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

So...

here's the problem.

I can't get the main crank off.
I've tried EVERYTHING!
I even bought the pulley tool.

breaker bars
impact gun
nothing wants to break this bolt free.
Should I try to heat it up?

Can I just cut the timing cover off and get my 4th gen lude running again so I can take it to a shop and have them break the bolt free?

I'm almost out of options here!
getting kinda desperate....

So guys...
Help me out?

Re: main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

-Breaker bar with a 2-3ft steel pipe as an extension
-Get several socket extensions that allow your breaker bar to hang out past your fender
-Get a jack stand to support the extensions out wide while the socket's on the bolt

Re: main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

Do the bluetops have the auto or manual tensioners?

Re: main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

You can upload photos to a hosting site such as photobucket then link them here.

Sounds like you don't have the proper tension on the timing belt. At the longest point of the belt, you should be able to turn the belt nearly 1/4 turn. So from "l" to almost "---"

Have you hand cranked the motor to allow the belt to settle?

To tell if you have an auto tensioner - just google image "prelude auto tensioner" ....

Edit* forgot to mention... the opposite of an auto tensioner is a manual tensioner, so pretty self explanatory as to which you have.

Re: main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

There is a 10mm bolt that you loosen to adjust the tension pulley then tighten it once tension is set properly. There should be a timing belt DIY around here somewhere in regards to setting the proper tension.

Yes, you are supposed to hand-crank the motor a few full rotations (counter clockwise of course) in order to allow the belt to walk to the edge of the cam gears and settle properly.

Are you sure everything is set to TDC prior to installing the belt?

You're copy-pasting the wrong code. You need to copy the code that says "IMG" next to it.

Did you attempt to do an entire timing belt job WITHOUT referring to the service manual?!?!?!?!?!?!

Wow..... just.... wow.

Re: main crank pulley / harmonic balancer removal

Proper tension adjustment is as follows. Set your timing, loosen tension adjusting nut 2/3 - to a full turn, then retighten. Rotate crankshaft clockwise (opposite the direction the motor normally turns) 3 teeth on the camgears. Once you've done that the manual tensionrr should have taken all the slack out of the timing belt and you should be good to go.
