Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
Okay I'm just being a d!ck.
Anyways, the only ways to "add alot more hp" is to either grind for exp to level up, or use Rare Candy. LOL. Okay, okay, I'll be serious now. You're not going to easily make a lot of power out of an H23. They're poo in stock form, and without serious work, they're still poo. Reason being that the intake, head, and exhaust systems were designed fairly well by Honda, and bolt-ons don't net much gain, if any. Your only options here are to either 1) Swap an H22 into it, netting you about 30hp, 2) adding nitrous for instant, on-demand power, 3) Dumping ungodly amounts of cash to build an NA H23 which will net you probably 50hp, or 4) Boost the H23. Gains will vary, as will the life expectancy of your engine. Of course, you could always swap and boost an H22 and make 300whp easy. But most of us Prelude owners aren't ballin' enough for that.

Of course you can. Any internal four-stroke internal combustion engine could have forced induction added to it, I'd imagine. With a properly sized turbo, upgraded fuel system, and a few other supporting modifications, you could get about 280-300whp on the stock block. Most people say 7psi is the max you can "safely" go, but I've heard others say 10psi. I wouldn't stray from 6-7psi, personally.

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
You can do a junkyard turbo setup on a stock h23 block. Google h23 junkyard turbo and you should find a few threads. Most of the threads I've read say to expect to spend around $1000 for the parts and then however much a tune would cost. One build got like 250hp and and 240 tq. Good luck.

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
You can run a DSM (Eclipse/talon/laser) 4G63 turbo manifold with little modification, a used 16G turbo, and a little grinding off the block webbing for clearance, a junkyard intercooler, and an FMU to get the bare basics of a turbo setup.

if you have to ask these questions youre not ready to do any kind of build yourself.
so search & study OR let some shop build the car for you

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
I would listen to TypeT. He knows his **** but be prepared to be told how it is because he doesn't hold back punches lol.
My opinion start with a H22a or H23v swap first to get used too. If u wanna go boost te right way be prepared to spend about $5-10k. Read so u wanna go boost thread. There's a lot of good info there... |

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
what you want done really depends on how much money you want to spend. Having a shop do your build is a pretty valuable choice seeing as you just got your first prelude. I had a 96 with the H23A1 motor, but now having a H22 I can tell a difference. Again it really depends on the amount of money you want to spend and how long you want the build to take. Do some searching and you will get a lot of information.
As far as I know with the 4th gen a turbo is really the only setup without major modifications; as to putting a Super Charger which requires serious modifications such as to the firewall for the 4th generations. |

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
Do a lot of research.
Just to throw out some sort of turbo list; Sleeve the Block - $300-1000 for sleeves $500-800 labor Low Compression Pistons - $350-1000 Camshafts - $600-1000 Dual Titanium Valve Springs - $250-400 King/ACL Bearings $100-200 After Market Rods $350-500 ARP Head Studs $100-200 Turbo $350-1500 Intercooler $150-300 BOV $200-400 Piping $100-300 Turbo Timer $100-300 Custom Headers/Down Pipe/Exhaust etc $350-700 H22 $800-1200 LSD Tranny $700-1000 Chipped ECU $200-400 Tune $300-400 And there's a bunch more. U also have to consider safety such as braking, suspension etc. Going Boost isn't just slap a turbo in and calling it a day. So much can go wrong just for and extra 50-100 HP |

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
Lots have. That's the only good you can logically do with that motor.
Just search around for people's builds and see what they bought and what worked for them etc.

Like these guys are saying, lotta homework to be done.
Not cheap. And really expensive if you don't know the process; shops will smell that as soon as you pull up. Good luck. |

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
Unless you have $10+ grand to throw around, you won't get reliable performance.
Why not just enjoy the work those dudes in lab coats did 18 years ago by driving your car around your home in an ever expanding 100 sq mile radius. Take it on the highway, out on a byway and down right country roads and you'll experience the true beauty of the prelude. Then if you still want all those mod's every other kid in your city has/wants, then go for it. Meanwhile study, study, study...

parts itself cost around 6000-8000 + work = you need 12-16k. just rough estimate

if you dont have $15,000 to make an old car fast then youre better off buying a faster/newer car for the same amount of money

Yeah internal work is best option on the h23. Check out 98Vtec's build on here. He was runnin an 11.8 in the quarter, and he was all motor. Just make sure you do plenty of research on exactly what you want to do and what you have the money to do, and you should do fine.

Re: Just got my Prelude I want to mod it but don't know what to get?
From my 1 day of reading about the 4th gen prelude (new owner as well), I'd love to put an H23A Blue Top and just do bolt-ons...possibly cams if available and let it ride. Seems like that motor puts out decent power and I have a feeling if you would invest more in the suspension, this car could handle extremely well...I'm surprised how well it handles with crappy sleeve coil-overs the previous owner put on the front end. If it handles well, and puts out decent power it's much more enjoyable that just straight-line speed imo.
