s2k purchase

hey pz family i been thinking of buying a honda s2k for a few months now and i think now ama go ahead and save my money for the s2k since i really dont wanna finance it. Any input? anyone has one or driven one? pros and cons about owning one?

that being said i think i will have to sell the prelude since i only have parking in my back yard for 3 cars and wifey has 2 car. I only got one parking spot ( shes the boss). I will be adding a part out thread to sell all the rare parts, new honda parts, powder coated parts, u name it i might have it

thanks in advance for any input guys

Re: s2k purchase

Ive been on prelude forums for a long time. Ive seen many members drool over, and eventually buy a s2k after having mechanically modified preludes. Most of them sold the s2k within a year or 2. The most common reason ive seen is the relative lack of torque and driving enjoyment compared to their old ludes. S2k's are awesome cars, dont get me wrong, but the amount of money it takes to get anything but very top of the powerband power out of them is too rich for my blood personally, and many fellow prelude forum lurkers who have dove in head first as you are considering.

If you havent already, id say go drive a s2k like you stole it and truly see if ditching your prelude in favor of the s2k is what you want to do. Id hate to see another Luder regret such a decision.

Re: s2k purchase

If it weren't for an S2K I wouldn't be into Hondas. Great little cars, extremely fun to drive. The difference between AP1s and AP2s isn't as big as, say, the 4th and 5th gen. The engines are slightly different; the AP1 has a higher redline but the AP2 makes a little more torque. A friend of mine has owned three (2 AP1s and an AP2) and prefers the AP1. An AP1 will be cheaper, but also more likely to have been driven hard. But don't expect to pay less than $10-15,000 for one that's in good shape.

Re: s2k purchase

Neuspeed or Spoon Sports for handling goodies for the S2K. Opera performance for S2K or amuse, there are place ls to choose from. Buuut Pricey

As far as Driving is concerned, Awful DD's but great toy for twisties. Unfortunately, it's a new car owner only type car. You had to snag one the most a year old. Now the gremlins are popping up.

Buut, there are J-swap kits for the chassis sooooooo, you'd have a real mover. Again, money.

I'm only 6' tall and felt like a grizzly bear sitting in that car. So much more arm/leg room in the Prelude.

Re: s2k purchase

I went from a 4th gen Prelude to a S2000 and I am very happy with the car, only downside is it's not the best winter car. Other then that its's better in every way IMO.

Get Codyh's opinion too since he moved from an all out 4th gen build to buying an S2000. Still has both cars, and still working on that 4th gen!

Thank you!

Sad to see a Lude getting out of the scene...but at least you are staying within the Honda family. Keep us updated with progress on your S2K as well!

Re: s2k purchase

S2000's are stupid simple to work on.

However, they leak like a sieve (convertible top, not engine), aren't comfortable, have NO storage space, have NO torque, and their differentials have a habit of exploding.

The top does not leak at all, and it is comfortable if your not the size of godzilla. The diff will hold just fine if you dont launch it ten times a day.

The S2k is notorious for both the tops leaking and the differentials being extremely weak.

Re: s2k purchase

350z has nearly the same 1/4 mile times as an H22 Prelude lol.

Should get an Integra Type R. This talk about diffs exploding is driving me nuts. But s2k reliable doe.

Stock block can handle 600whp for a decent amount of time. One guy was perplexed at how his stock block 600+ whp F20C held up no matter how hard or how many times he launched it just wouldn't. His S2K also does wheelies. Pretty freaking awesome.

Oh, and the hard top. It costs more than most Preludes are worth LOL...ugh...I remember someone local selling an S2K hard top. Someone thought he was selling the actual S2000. He facepalmed and said it was just the hardtop for $4000.

nvm thought the 1/4 mile for them was high 14's with 270hp. Apparently they can get high 13's and have 300-310hp.

Not sure where the hell I was looking.

Re: s2k purchase

All this quatermile junk don't mean jack, and frankly with all the bump sticks a 350Z comes with, it should be doing 320hp with the same torque.

Stock v stock a S2000 embarasses a 350Z on a track. Carbon Fiber hardtop with bracebar FTW.

For the kind of money being asked for S2K, might as well get one with 300,000 miles and spend the money saved and get the motor rebuilt with forged internals.

Or buy a 2004-06 GTO...

I've had the car for over a year and the top does not leak and where I live it rains and snows a lot. The diff is known to be a weak spot, but that doesn't mean it will break. Keep the car stock and it will hold just fine.
