4WS - Rear Wheel Speed Sensor?

Hey!

So.. I read off the error codes in my car, and it was giving me 35 and 36 on
the 4WS light. The ABS light gave 4 short (that's the speed sensor, this I know ;p)

But. Here's the description from the 4WS error code write-up:

Code:
35 Wheel Speed Rear L 3 CU, RLWSS, ABSCU
36 Wheel Speed Rear R 1 CU, RRWSS, ABSCU, HC

Keys:

RLWSS - Rear Left Wheel Speed Sensor
RRWSS - Rear Right Wheel Speed Sensor
ABSCU - ABS Control Unit
CU - 4WS Control Unit
HC - Harness Connector
As I just bought this car not too long ago, I've done the nice job
of re-soldering the 4WS/ABS ECU box. Something wich it needed, and it needed
it bad! So since that's done, it's time to clear out these errors.

I'm just wondering what parts I would need? I know it obviously is the rear
left and right "wheel speed sensors" wich I need, but does anyone have an image
which shows these? I need to order them online, and I don't want to order
anything wrong as it takes forever to ship here to Norway.. :b

Kind regards!

Re: 4WS - Rear Wheel Speed Sensor?

Chris,
I'll start by saying I don't know jack about 4g 4ws with it's electronics.

But I looked at rear lower control arm at majestic honda and it shows one sensor for each side.
Now as far as all those other items?
I hate to say it, but to me you will have to go through the process of elimination unless you can meet someone who knows which items typically fail.

Will do some research as I'm curious why the 4th-5th gen 4ws is so unpopular.

Re: 4WS - Rear Wheel Speed Sensor?

Most likely, because now days, the cars that came with 4WS is so old.
The 4WS unit may break down, or simple fixes such as some re-soldering, wich really
wasn't my problem at all, just did it as I saw it was RIGHT before joins started to
pop, cleaning the sensors or replacing them.

This is (as I've read) a very simple task to do, and the sensors does not cost much
at all. If you ask me, and this is my personal opinion as my 4WS does work for some
time before it shuts down, that driving with 4WS in both low and high speed is MUCH
more comfortable than driving without.

When you turn your steering wheel, you seriously feel the rear end of the car following
your direction instantly and without "delay" as you get from regular 2WS.
Also, the force and presision needed on the steering-wheel gets reduced significantly!

You already have a thread open about this exact same issue. The speed sensors are small magnetic pickups that are located on the knuckle with a wire going to it (only thing on the knuckle with a wire)

Blimey - thats what puts me off getting the 2.2Vtec - the 4WS hassles! What was honda thinking of as its just a gimmick? Hate it big time - shame as car fantastic in every other respect

Re: 4WS - Rear Wheel Speed Sensor?

I love my 4ws. After driving my 93 4ws I would never buy a 2ws prelude. My next car is probably going to be a 3rd gen with the mechanical 4ws. Sorry to kinda hijack the thread :/

I hated having to remove the 4WS from my 4th gen. I used to be able to do U turns like a mofo but now I'm lucky if I don't have do a 3 point turn around.

Re: 4WS - Rear Wheel Speed Sensor?

ididdy - You're right, I did have another thread. I just didn't think of it when I made this one, so... My bad! (:

And yes, the 4WS is a fantastic thing when it works.
Once I get it fixed, I will drive it 'till it colapses again.
Should the 4WS/ABS Unit ever say "good night", then
I'll just pull the whole freakin' 4WS motherboard out of
the box and unplug the bulb in the dash-board and drive
it like nothing ever happened (:

After mine died it wouldn't stay centered. I would be driving down the road with the rear wheels flopping which every way they wanted to go. Very dangerous.
