H22A4 in 96 Prelude???

OK,

So after years of hoping and wanting, I've decided to finally dive in and get the fourth-generation Prelude I've dreamed about since first playing Gran Turismo II.

I wanted a factory 96 VTEC, and found a seller who says his fits the bill. I asked if the Prelude was factory stock, and he says that it is. Then he says he has the factory 'H22A4' engine.

???

In my research, I found that only the H22A1 was the stock engine in the 96 fourth-generation Prelude VTEC.

However, the photo of the car confirms that this is indeed the 4th-generation Prelude (Prelude in curvise letters on trunk lid, rounded back, etc). So, what's the deal, did he simply mistake the H22A1 for the H22A4? Or, was the engine swapped before he got it? Or, have you guys heard of a 96 Prelude rolling out of the factory with a H22A4 within?

I'll try and get a pic of the engine, so could you also tell me any noticeable visual difference between the two?

Thanks.

Re: H22A4 in 96 Prelude???

96 prelude is the first year for obd 2, so that means that the seller is correct. Their is supposed to be an a4 in their. The 96 model was a weird year for the prelude due to 96 being the first year for all cars to be obd 2 compliant. The 96 prelude is also using a rare obd 2 p13 ecu. The first and last year for that ecu after they changed them to the p5m ecu. Also a weird year because its the first and last year for a 4th gen obd 2 prelude.

Hmmm.

I was about to close this thread, now there seems to be a debate on the matter.

I suppose I'll find out when I go up and see the car. I'll let you guys know one way or the other.

There is no debate. The motor should be an a1
