Icon8 Nube has engine issues........

Last year I bought what I assume is a Japanese 1994 Vtec (H22A) engine for my North American Prelude. The "mechanic" who installed it, told me I didn't have to change out the computer head and I think he added on line to it. It has never run right and the check engine light will usually come on within 5 minutes. In addition the car idles roughly. I have a new mechanic who insists I have to either replace the computer OR send the existing one out to someplace to get reprogrammed.

First I would like to look on the engine for some serial numbers to know for sure what I have. Anyone know where they are located?

Second I would like to know if I need to buy a new computer or can I send it off for reprogramming.

Thanks for suffering my nube-ness!

Hey, its Glanny's car, about 200 sets of rims ago!!

Engine code: Engine code missing?

ECU (computer); it depends on what you have in there now, its located under the passenger foot well, under an aluminum kick plate. Some are the wrong ECU's for the engine, some are better, and some are the best.

Re: Nube has engine issues........

YOU ROCK!
I was able to clean it up and it reads:
H22A
2004004

So I have the original ECU that came with the car (for a F22A1).
Can I have that one reprogrammed or am I better off getting another one?

It has an automatic tranny

Re: Nube has engine issues........

oooophhh, an auto H22. i'm sorry

i'm not exactly sure what's the right ECU for an auto H22, but the F22 ECU is def the farthest from the correct ECU. Someone else will chime in with what you should get.

Are you sure your engine is a 94? If it was an OBD2 engine then you might be needing a resistor box removal. Check the injectors with an OHM meter and if they are low (1.5-2) then you are all good. If they are high (higher than 10) then you need to remove the resistor box.
