H23 timing

Hey guys,

Just rebuilt my H23 and it won't fire. It's getting spark and fuel (I even tried starting fluid which made a huge backfire). I think the timing is off, but I can't see how. We put the cam gears aiming up and the crank pulley notch is at TDC. Is there such a thing as being 180 degrees out? Like sparking on the exhaust stroke? I'm at a loss here. I've done this before successfully, but I can't get it right. The pistons aren't hitting the valves, but it just turns over. Any help is appreciated!

Distributor 180 degrees off? Mine did the same thing when I did a head swap and it was the distributor 180 degrees off. ALSO are your spark plugs in the correct order?
