Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

Looking for somebody to speak up here..

I want to put my A/F Gauge and another gauge between my speedometer and gas/temp cluster, and I wanna know how to move it over like this;

It's been a year and a half since I started researching this and trying to get ahold of the guy that did it or whatever, but there's no write-ups or DIY's, or seemingly anyone that really knows a good way to do this that has spoken up so far, so I'm breaking down and asking the community of any ideas on how to do this. Unless I missed a bus to JDM and this is part of it.

This is someone else's car;

...See how the clock is in the middle, and the gas gauge is over toward the passenger? First thought is 'Oh, he's somewhere else in the world' because he has a center speaker and climate control, however I see a FL license place on that van, and his speedometer is in MPH.

I currently have my dash apart and I can make this happen, but not without cutting stuff up. The back of the tinted gauge cover near the clock has a black backing on it that I'd have to somehow cut into without damaging the cover itself, and the mounting points that are between the gas/temp and whatever's to the right of that would have to be cut out so it won't make the gas/temp protrude out too far to re-install the cover. If I cut all that, the only place I could screw the gas/temp in would be on the far right, because there is a mounting point over there that mates up with this part of the cluster. I dunno what that BS thing over to the right is;

These pictures show there is a clear alternative to destroying my dash, and I wanna know what it is.

Info, please!

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

Im just spitballing here but I do believe you will have to remove everything and mess with the harness so it extends to the new location. You then have to make a way to mount the gauges so they dont jiggle around everywhere.

Im pretty sure if you remove all the wire covering and tape, you will have enough flexability to move the wires where they are needed, it will just look like a wiring disaster.

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

That wiring harness is stiff as hell, but as it sits, the leads are extended as far left as they will go, so I have about 8in of play with them. I've been fooling around with it for a week now and I'm pretty sure all wiring will still reach.

Mounting would be the only issue with mine, as I stated the gas/temp cluster would only have a spot to screw in on the very right, over by the tweeter cover. I could used some Velcro on the back of it or something, but I don't wanna cut it up unless I know for a fact that's how they've done it in those pics.

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

Almost positive Guyan mounted his boost gauge in the center, and moved the fuel/temp over to the pass side.

^ yup. you need to cut some of the tabs and get rid of the clock with the white housing around it. in that one pic with the clock in the middle, thats pretty cool i never seen that before

Yeah those mounting tabs would have to go, and I'd have to cut out the back of the tinted cover to be able to see ally warning lights if they illuminate

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

Ahhhh man I don't wanna cut stuff! But I really don't want a gauge pod on my pillar either haha.

Any ideas on how that clock in the middle works? I Googled pics of 1991-1996 Prelude clusters for USDM, EDM, and JDM but some of the same pics popped up in each search because people don't know how to properly tag their ****, and really nothing came up consistently.

On the RHD Preludes though, the clock is on the left of the gas/temp, as would be expected. That's the only similarity to that picture.

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

Here's some pics of what I'm working with;

The space between the gauge cover and the backing that I'd have to cut is literally less than 1/8 of an inch;

The mounting brackets circled in orange are what I'd have to cut out so that the gauges cluster would remain flush, and the bracket circled in blue is where I would mount it up on the far right. This would leave nothing for me to secure the left side of the cluster with, except to rig it with Velcro.

This is where it'd mount on the right;

Another issue though..the gauge cluster has mounting tabs for the cluster cover, which again, would not line up. So all in all, I don't think this is gonna happen. There's gotta be a dash out there that has the backing already molded to have the clock and the gauge cluster switched. Some JDM/USDM hybrid BS that they made like 12 of for the random Euro countries where they still drive on the right side of the road.

If you're talking about that pic with my shoes in it, I just took the pic from that angle to show I can't hardly fit the tip of a pen between there.

Caught the glass a couple times when I busted Dremel bits

Used the old gasket off the lower timing cover

Even with that cutout, There's not a whole lotta room behind that cover, so I think I'll just have room to mount my extra temp gauge back in there, and I'll have to brake down and put my A/F gauge in the tweeter cover when I can find an extra one to cut up.

A few things need to fall into place. It helps if your gauges are "short". I had gauges that were ~4inches long... Had to cut a hole through the rear part of the dash for them to fit. Also, if you don't mind moving the clock dial you can cut out a whole lot more from the smoked cover. I also had to remove the smoked lens off my gauges to be able to see them behind the stock smoked lens. Moving the temp/fuel cluster is major work, would need to remove the whole dash wire harness and extend/shorten wires as need be.

Don't have many pics of the job, I don't think I owned a camera back when I did the install.lol:

Re: Move gas/temp gauges over to passenger side?

That looks really good dude, I'm still working on it. The gauges I have are fairly small, I'd say 2in wide by 3in deep. What's behind the dash where I'd cut out? Anything to worry about?

I'm just worried about having my A/F gauge too far away, either to be monitoring myself, or for my tuner to be able to see easily. I think I'll probably wait til after it's tuned to actually mount everything.
