need help....engine replacement

Hello all, I'm about to die.

So, I have a 92 prelude s with a F22A1 motor.
I was at the atm earlier and out of nowhere, I started to hear a ticking and I'm pretty sure it's a rod knock. I check the oil as soon as it happened, it was at in between add and full.

It knocks around 3000rpm, I was shifting insanely early on each gear to make it home and didnt go over 40mph or is hear a tick.

I've read that using cheap blends of oil can be a cause of this as well.

Being that I don't have the necessary tools to do a tear down, I'm planning on going to a salvage yard and pulling an f22 out of an accord ( since I've never seen a 4th gen lude at any yard we have locally) my question is, what years are compatible with my ecu?

And is there there anything else I need to know before I yank a f22a1 out of an accord?

a ticking noise may be in your valvetrain i wouldnt just go buy a motor without further diagnosing your problem you could use a long handled screw driver start your car and start putting one end of the screwdriver to where you suspect the noise and the other end in your ear... you should be able to pinpoint where the noise is coming from that way... just make sure not to get caught up in any moving parts

Re: need help....engine replacement

Thanks for the feedback, I'll do that in the morning, my neighbors would hate me if I stated up my lude right now.

My bad too, its not much of a tick, it's a good sounding knock :/

You should put a h23a or a h22a in it instead of a f22a1 their fairly cheap online :)

90-93 Accords can have the F22A1. But everyone on here will tell you to go H series. I would take geno's advice first though. Just incase it is something stupid.

Not this guy F22a1 all day!! Saves gas, easier to find, cheaper, no extra wiring, you already have the ECU, Boost friendly, motors have iron sleeves, list goes on and on.

I've heard of some parts yards letting F22aX's go for as low as $150.

Re: need help....engine replacement

Update!

Just had my friend look at it, ( he's a mechanic) he informed me that its the rod bearing!

So, in your opinions, what's the easiest way to tackle this? One read that removing the oil Pan and going at it from there is. Anyone have any expierence on doing this? Or know of a write up?

Thanks.

Oh, and I agree, I'm an f22 guy too :p

The salvage yard has 7 f22a's up for grabs, I'm gonna buy one soon and build the hell out of it and boost :p

Re: need help....engine replacement

Depends, how soon do you need it? I would just take the time and replace all the bearings if I were you. But you can reach it from dropping the oil pan but its not a fun job at ALL if you dont have access to a lift.

Re: need help....engine replacement

Alright, so I dropped the oil pan and was inspecting the bearings and can't find much movement in all of them >.<

The only one that has any movement is the 2nd but its hardley even noticeable. I'm going to hope that it's the culprit but I'm gonna have my mechanics opinion before doing anything else.

Haha this is driving me nuts.

You know what, try running some seafoam through. It might be a carbon knock.

might be a spun bearing which shows little movement.

Re: need help....engine replacement

Alright finally down to the bitten of it.

3 out of four main bearings need to be swapped and, 2 rod bearings spun.
I'm just going to replace all the main/rod bearings while I'm at it.

Good idea. I would also replace crank seal and rear main seal and change the timing belt and water pump while you are at it.
