Does using Vtec wear the engine down faster?

Is using Vtec twice a week bad for the engine? How reliable are H22A1's?

Re: Does using Vtec wear the engine down faster?

I mean heck, if you always wait till VTEC to shift, yea, it might wear the engine down a little. But twice a week? I bet almost everyone on here uses it more than that. Honda motors aren't like American motors...they actually last.

Re: Does using Vtec wear the engine down faster?

VTEC ALL DAY ERRRR DAY!!!!!!!!!

Something breaks, just aftermarket that bitch and keep on vtec'in', yo

You only live once.

But yes, abuse it, and just like any mechanical component, it will experience more wear. BUT, our engines are built to withstand the beating anyway, why not?

She'll like you more the more you beat her. Mine just keeps askin' for it, so I tear it up all day err day!

You need to be more specific regarding VTEC, there are at least 3 different degrees of VTEC:

.... The "VTEC touch" (~5100rpm; to let people around you know you have mad VTEC or you are bored in peak traffic).

.... The "IMA GONA PASS YA VTEC" (~6200-6500rpm; you hit VTEC hard but are bound by traffic laws).

.... And the "WOT VTEC" (~7700rpm in a couple/few gears; this is the adrenaline fuelled VTEC, use with extreme caution-cops get excited by this form of VTEC and chase you down.lol).

The way I see it, not using VTEC kills the motor prematurely. Regular VTEC (once per drive) prolongs the life of the engine. Therefore chronic VTEC (every chance you get) makes the engine last forever.

I have chronic VTEC (basically every time I get a chance; and the engine has been going un-touched for ~65k miles in my hands. I did however kill one set of lost motion assemblies, a couple of distributors, and a couple of alternators (alternators definitely don't like VTEC). She still starts every time and is eager for more VTEC.

Are you serious or just sarcasm lol? Cause these stupid 35-40 MPh streets I mainly drive on whenever I drive don't let me go fast enough to engage into VTEC without going over the speed limit. So VTEC rare for me :(

Re: Does using Vtec wear the engine down faster?

So as for the topic of vtec, i hit vtec atleast a few times every time i drive my lude. As for the SHDriver thing topic, yea at times miss his comments but most of the time i don't. Sometimes ill go back and read the thread where Beaker banned his ass just for kicks. For anyone that wants to re-read I want to raise my Prelude to stock height
