What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Okay, Well first of all I'm new to PZ so hello to anyone.
My name is Evan.

I have recently traded my 94 honda accord for a 92 prelude si with stock h23a1 and I mean stock. Only thing people have changed under the hood in this car is battery and no name intake.. Its sat in a guys yard and driveway for I have no idea how long... Ive started driving it daily and all the heater hoses keep breaking and crap.. Ive gone through almost 3 gallons of antifreeze in the last week.. This weekend im going to change as many hoses as i can.
This motor has 217xxx miles and its showing it.. but i plan to bring the car back to its rightful place as a prelude.

Now my question is what shall I give her as a new powerplant?
I will include budget and power..

I am looking to spend between 1500 to 2000 on a swap. just for the swap no turbo right now..
my options are h22a, h23a, f20b. all jdm motors
just looking for suggestions and ideas mainly. whats a good motor that will please me? i want to make this a show car thats fast.. it needs work and plenty of money but i want to get some input on what motor to get? I'm not rich and just looking to get the motor first no internals or big upgrades just a starting point. each motor i plan to build up but not right away..
Just give me some ideas for a good starting point.
NOW GO! :)

Ill post a picture thread of the car soon.

thank you in advance..

I'm biased, but have you considered a F22a1? Might want to think about it if you want to boost later.

I haven't thought about it but I'll look into it for sure.
I'm not positive I want to boost cause I like all motor too. I'm on the fence about it.

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

f22a1 130hp=$150-200 <------ about $1.5 per hp
h23a1 150hp=$400-600 <------ about $4 per hp
h22a 170hp=$700-1000 <------ about $5.8 per hp

Is it really the BEST bang for your buck???

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Swap shouldn't be anywhere in your mind. Make sure your radiator is good, your transmission has been flushed and filled and those hoses taken care of. The timing is either gone, or going seeing 240,000 will be the official 4th change interval. Do the belt.

The steering, ac, and alternator need checking too. No point in swapping if you need to fix all these other parts anyway.

^not just that, but if you can find a jdm h22a1 for under 1500 let me know. Maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places but for a rebuilt a1 most I see are at least 3000+ shipping

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Do you have experience rebuilding a engine? or do you have a friend that can help? Have you considered rebuilding the motor? You can simply rebuild and put in a H22 head on it. but if you lack in either of those then i would suggest a H22A1 since it will be alot more cheaper than doing a whole rebuild. Also listen to Sideswipe it could just be a bad radiator or just bad/old antifreeze.

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Well the swap is to put a new motor in there. Im not going to spend a 1000 dollars fixing this motor when I'm goin to take it out. That's just unnecessary.. But I have thought about rebuilding what I have and throwing a h22 head on and boosting later on.. If I swap or rebuild I'm buying a new radiator and all new hoses.

And cpc I have a guy who's quoting around 2300 for a full h22a (jdm motor) with around 40xxx miles. Good prices. Comes with h22 tranny as well.

I think what I'm going to do is rebuild my h23 and get a h22 head.. I'm hoping to find a wrecked prelude with a low mileage h22 I can pick up for a 1000 or so.

I'm not trying to be a dick either sideswipe. Don't take it that way please :) thanks for replying but it's the hoses.. Radiator is good. I'm changing about 80% of hoses this weekend and getting a el cluster so I can know when the **** my car is over heating.. Haha

Sorry for all the separate posts.

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

None taken man. I missed my ensure this morning, damn nurses. After 7 cars, I learned leave mods/swaps until after your car can reliably run. Until you do your own inspection, you really don't know what else might be bad. So save up after you got the little problems fixed. Nothing worse buying a new block, then your tranny synchros seize :knock on wood knock on wood:

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Haha Yeah. The idiot before me left the screw out of the dizzy bug so it was loose and I was suprized it started. But I've gone through about 3 gallons of antifreeze and the radiator is good. The hoses are cracking when I squeeze them and I have a new exhaust mani gasket cause a stud broke off in the head :( so I'm glad I have a few blocks and heads sitting around, I'm fixing them slowly. But I think the h23 block h22 head is my choice. I need some more input but I'm still researching before bed haha what do y'all think?

Re: What should i put into my 4th gen? suggestions

Well the salvage yard I've been getting parts from a 96 prelude from has a comPlete h23a1 and I can but the motor for 100 dollars. Only has 130xxx miles and just needs timing belt and head job. I'd be stupid not to buy it. So hopefully next weekend :D I'm pretty excited.
