Faint smell of gas

Earlier this week I tested my gas gauge because its not working. I took out just the gauge, I didn't touch the fuel pump itself(i did however noticed it seemed wet) and now randomly ill smell gas in my car, and I only got ~250 miles to a tank. When I have some time this weekend i'll take a look at it, but I didn't think I could mess anything up with the gas lines by taking out the fuel gauge. Also, do you all's preludes take unleaded premium only also, because mine does, but my teacher has a 92 prelude and his doesn't?

Re: Faint smell of gas

I have an S and it takes 87.

I think it's the VTEC that requires premium.

Re: Faint smell of gas

Nope the guage isn't connected to ANY of the fuel lines, so it's not related to that.

With a second person priming the fuel system, I would check for any leaks at the injector o-rings (known for drying out and leaking), as well as the top of the fuel pump assembly, since you said it looks wet.

Also F22's only need regular, H22's need premium, and I forget what H23's require, but I always used premium.

Re: Faint smell of gas

If you don't have VTEC. Go to shell and fill half your tank with V-Power then drive to Chevron and fill the rest of your tank with Techtron and BOOM!!! You now have VTEC!!

Re: Faint smell of gas

Using 87 when 93 is suggested wont blow your motor up, but it will eventually clog your Cat, which can make O2's go bad, which can make you get worse gas mileage, which can lead to you spending much much more.

Re: Faint smell of gas

I got an OEM replacement denso 02 sensor from napa for $140 when i needed one in a pinch like a year ago. It had the connector and everything, not the kind you have to solder in. Plug and play..... unless its some wideband 02 or something i dont see where the 500 figure comes from. California or not an 02 sensor should never be that expensive for an OBD1 car.

Re: Faint smell of gas

Still haven't gotten around to checking it out. Me and my friend were going to this morning but he has a hang over.. But my car was 'jerking' like it wasn't giving gas so i filled it up, but i only got 8 gallons in there, so it wasn't empty, i hope the fuel pump isn't starting to **** up again, i've had to replace 3 of em in the past year. Also, I believe the JDM engine I got was the f22a

3 FP's in a year isn't normal, something is wrong there. I'd check the wiring to the FP connectors, make sure they're in good condition.

x2. Ive owned fourth gen's for almost 10 years and have never had to replace a fuel pump. Id say you have something else going on.

Re: Faint smell of gas

The reason why i've replaced them is because I had rust in my old tank, but i replaced the tank and so they've been good since then.
