4ws Problems

Hi, i'm new to the site. I've got a 1999 2.2 prelude with 4ws but the light is on. I've bridged the terminals and i got 2 long flashes of the 4ws light (i believe they were long flashes, possibly short).

I was wondering if anyone had any information relating to the trouble codes so i can try to determine the problem?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Ollie

I feel ya' bro. I am having the same problems with the 4WS light in my 1992 4th Gen. I have tried some of the recommended fixes but I am too afraid to go in any deeper so I'm taking it to Honda...

This is not an error code list but these people have the same problem and might be able to help you better than I can.

Good luck.

To the OP, sounds like a code 20.

Sean1121 I have a couple of 4WS questions for you our holy 4W-Steering god!

I am getting intermittent 4WS, works sometimes other times no and anyway even though I have not personally pulled the error codes I believe I am getting a 60 - 65.

What I want to know is am I doing any damage (to anything) by driving the car with the 4WS error light on? And is there any way to disengage 4WS completely too permanently lock the rear wheels?

Cheer's!

Driving with the light on won't hurt anything. The only way to permanently lock the rear wheels is to buy the rear actuator lock pin. Make sure you pull the 4ws fuses first though.

If you're getting codes 60 - 65 it sounds like you need to resolder the 2 relays in the 4ws control unit. I was having the same problem with mine with a code 62 IIRC. The light hasn't stayed on since I resolder it.

So I am going to resolder my 4WS unit in tomorrow but does anyone know what side of the rear seats the 4WS control unit is hidden under? Drivers side or Passengers side? (NOTE: This is a RIGHT hand drive 4th Gen)

It would be good if I just had to take out one seat and not them both ;)

Thanks all!

Should be behind the left rear seat. That would be your passenger side and my driver's side. Its the side that doesn't fold down.

Thanks mate, I found it, pulled it out, pulled it apart and resoldered 4 of the 10 points (the other six seemed fine). I then put the control unit back in its place (accidentally left out a couple of screws when re-mounting it but the 4WS unit itself is rock solid so that's all that matters) and started it up...

After 5 engine turn off's and turn on's the 4WS light HAS REMAINED OFF!!! Yahooo!! So it seems the problem has been fixed.

Thanks again for all your help.
