Icon2 Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

The carbon fiber hood brand is SEIBON. The owner that want to do straight trade his oem style carbon fiber hood for my oem flat black hood but the thing is that the owner was in a fender bender accident that **** the CF hood up, but its still good. You'll see the pics. The owner live at West Palm Beach, FL and I live at DeLand, Fl which is very far from each other, but we can meet up in halfway, tho. I am here to ask you the luders for your opinion to tell me to do the trade or not.

Here are the pics...

Let me know what do you think?

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

I absolutely loveddd my CF hood on my accord and have been dying to get one since then. Buttt, that one unfortunately LOOKS (to me at least, but I am by no means a body/exterior expert) like its cracked a lil farther than just through the clear-coat. Prolly not THRU the CF, but prolly down to the CF, where if you were to try to sand the crack out of the clear-coat, it would still be visible in the CF if you were to re-clear it.

That's my .02. But i'm also

I wouldn't trade for that since it is damaged.

I'll ask the owner about it. If I do the trade, I would be more extra careful closing and opening it up gently and plus plan to add "ouch" or band aid on the cracks.

cf don't have clear coat on them. i am a painter and on cf it is actually like a resin not clear coat it is damaged pretty bad but it is a much lighter hood i would look at the hood from under neath if its not cracked and holds good then do it you can always do an acid dip and then paint the hood. painting cf inset the best but is great for some thing like this.

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

The owner said it not thru the CF. Just thru to CF, so what you think? I could fill it up with clean coat to match surface but I know it will not look like other, but I can band aid it for fun.

I know everyone tend to keep damaged CF just to paint it to match the color, but to me, I am not planning to do that. I want CF and I know its damage, but I could fill it up with clear coat or whatever you call then band aid sticker on it for fun?

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

dude i say do it. as long as the hood structurally is in good condition its well worth it. i have a 700 dollar cf hood i got and they painted it wrong so the primer paint and clear is cracking through just like yours but the weight diff is amazing. if you do get it though i would insist that you get the hood pins for it don't have to but very very important to have.

I plan to do that, but I do not know which brand to have because theres too many hood pins out there and I don't know which that will work well with the 4th gen lude.

Hey man, I'd do it its not terribly hard to repair but it takes time and you most likely will have to paint it. If your not up for the challenge then I'd say no. But it is a good find and u can always pick up an OEM hood if that one doesn't work pretty cheap at a salvage yard.

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

really just buy a good quality set. weather its a pin or a key and just make it fit. hood pins are not very difficult and if you ever need any help installing the pins or key. just ask someone on pz.

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

I asked the owner to see if it is loose like you can bend the hood... He said no... its very strong firm like the day it was new. Only cracked as you seen the pics, other than that, everythings good.

Re: Worth the trade? ok condition oem style CF hood for oem hood?

you may very well be able to clear coat and fill in the cracks. personally never tried to clear over the cf resin. but you can also by this cf resin as a resin and just fill it in i have heard of this being done. and as for the brand i dont have a fav if its just pins you can find a good quality set of ebay for like 15 to 30 bucks. the simplest is going to be the straight stem with the pin easy install and look good to.

As long as the cracks don't go through all the way it should be functional. Although, the cosmetic discrepancies are a bit too much for my taste.

You should hunt down one of your $40 hoods before the trade, trade him that one, and have both the CF and your original hood!
