high idle in cold temps

-93 prelude si
-JDM H22a Swap
-CAI and ebay header
-FITV bypassed and idle screw all the way in (and yes, I do know how to adjust idle)
-bought an IACV from a member on here and I've replaced every vacuum hose and checked for vacuum leaks with brake cleaner.
-stock intake
-virgin p13

Warm weather she'll idle perfectly at about 700. Winter hit and on these cold days (southern illinois weather) She'll idle between 1200 and 1800 even completely warmed up. Lights on of course it gets a tad higher. any ideas?

Re: high idle in cold temps

You could possibly try using a lighter weight oil. 5W30 or 5W20 for example...

Re: high idle in cold temps

i think that perfectly fine, when i start my lude in the cold, its starts out as a higher idle but then over lets say 5 minutes, the idle drops as the temperature goes up

Re: high idle in cold temps

OMG do you guys read... yes, its normal when you first start the car but I'm talking about when the car itself is completely warmed up and I'm out driving it. it behaves normal when it's warm out but on these winter days my idle never drops below 1200. EVER.

I already replaced the IACV and that got rid of my idle surge what h22ludedude was talking about.

and no, bb2bro, I haven't checked that hose yet. I'll check it.

and pizzabiz, I run 5w30 year round.

Re: high idle in cold temps

maybe it's because you bypassed the fast idle valve. the purpose of that valve is to let the engine idle higher to warm up quicker. and since you bypassed it, then maybe that is just how your idle will act.

but i'm not exactly sure how you bypass a fitv...

Re: high idle in cold temps

that is correct. and when your coolant gets warm enough it completely opens up and allows the IACV to take control.

look it up BB2BRO. it's easy.

Re: high idle in cold temps

i'm not trying to bypass mine.. i was just saying that maybe since the OP bypassed his then maybe that's what's causing it to constantly idle at 120rpm.

Re: high idle in cold temps

1200 rpm. I did the same thing in my del sol except I made a block off plate for it and it never did this during winter. Once the iacv takes over the fitv doesn't matter anymore.

Last night it started idling at 2000 again... all I can think of is to try ANOTHER IACV..

Re: high idle in cold temps

Tore everything apart and ends up both lines going to IACV were dry. HUGE air pocket. So I filled up each line with coolant, hooked everything back up and bled it and she's back to idling at 600. :)
