Getting a new intake.

So I ordered this new air intake kit and it should be here this week.

This is one of the first things I've gotten other than exhaust and rims so I'm stoked to be getting another thing for my Prelude.

I also had one question; anyone that's installed an intake on thiers, was it pretty easy to put on? This will be one of the first things I've done engine-wise myself so far and I'm hoping to get to know engines having this car so I'm stoked.

Re: Getting a new intake.

My mom installed hers on her miata. By herself.
(granted, my mom's not your average mom. Not only did she know what the crank was when I pulled it outta my H23, but she also knew what was wrong with it (that its not supposed to be in two pieces ))

Re: Getting a new intake.

@AcedPRELUDE - I got this. I didn't go to expensive on it because from what I understand intake is one of those things that you wont see much of a dif. in the more and less expensive ones. Do you think this will be fine?
? ?

@SoFlaKidd - Nice haha.

Use the filter that comes with it till it gets dirty, then get the K&N... Might as well get your use out of it before just tossing it.

Re: Getting a new intake.

@TypeT - Well the intake that the guy before me had on the car was a filter directly mounted to where the pipe for intakes is supposed to connect to the engine,, so that air would be muchhh hotter then the air coming through the front of the car where it's supposed to be.

ever heard of colder air being "tighter" (right word?) than warm? when air is colder you get more of it in same amount than it being warm

"A cold air intake is designed to place the air filter as far away from the hot engine as possible. Especially important when your radiator fan turns on, it will not blow the hot air into your air filter as with most short rams. Some manufactures make the cold air intake so that it places the air filter inside a fender or under a fender to try and capture as much cold air as possible. When an engine takes in colder air, it's packed with more oxygen, and creates more power."

and

"What you are doing in both cases is collecting the air from outside your engine compartment. This collects a colder air charge than inside the engine compartment, allowing the fuel management system to give the engine a denser air/fuel charge into the combustion chamber, (hence more horsepower).

The warmer air from your engine compartment is OK for fuel economy, but because is has less oxygen molecules than a cold air charge, the fuel will be leaned out. This increases your fuel efficency, but decreases your horsepower.

Take a good look at Dragsters, Funny Cars, NASCAR, Formula 1, and European Grand Prix/LaMans Cars. All of them pick up their engine's intake air from outside the engine compartment. They are not picking up the air charge from near the engine, or in a location where it cannot obtain cold air.

Here is another point. This is why many turbocharged, and supercharged cars have a device on them called an Intercooler. This device acts like a radiator for the incoming air. It cools it off before it goes into the compressor vanes to be pressured into the intake manifold. The colder you can make that incoming air, the denser that air/fuel mixture will be, and the more horsepower you can make."

but I seriously believe that you already know this.

Wellllll, I got it today and installed it and am happy with it.

Here is a before and after:

Before.

After.

(I also got bored and painted the old rusty header cover the other day, although it is already painted in both of these photos.)
