Need some pics of your roof rack!

And no, I don't mean a full body shot of your car.

What I'd really like to see is a closer up shot of how stretch kits work (Thule in particular, but Yakima is okay too), and maybe some info on how wide of a fairing you're using if you have a Thule one.

Right now all I have is a Thule base rack setup I actually kept from my dad's '93 Grand Am. I finally got the components to hook it to the Prelude, but before I commit to a Utah trip I wanna make sure I have everything. I know the stretch kit isn't necessary, but it sounds like it may add a little convenience and I'd like to know what it looks like and how it mounts up.

With regards to the fairing, there's no website that tells me for sure if I'd need a 32in or a 38in, and no pics anywhere of member rides that specify either, so if you guys have that info or the means to snap a pic for me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks dude!! Couple questions for ya since you're the only reply haha;

I see you have the 2-board carrier. Have you ever tried putting another board in there upside down? If so, how'd it fit? I was thinking about getting a 4-board holder just so I could put two in there with the bindings upward.

With regards to the stretch kit, yeah it's mainly for throwing a bicycle up there, but in reading reviews and such I've heard that the short distance between the bars can sometimes cause a hassle mating boards up there with shorter distances between the bindings.

I've also read that highway speeds can make the boards wobble up and down since the contact points are so close, meaning less board support. If I get someone with a cheap board in there I don't want something cracking off or flying away.

Then again, could just be myths, hell if I know.

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

Yup I've carried two boards before. The bottom board, your just gonna hafta turn the ankle strap so that its held in by the back of the binding. Otherwise, if you simply flip the highback forward and strap the ankle/toe straps to each other like normal, the ankle strap will hit the roof.
Since my stance is SO wide (park riding, FTW ) I actually had to move the bars closer to each other cuz that was the only option to hold the board; both bars are between my bindings. It'll just depend on how wide your stance is.
But no matter how close/far the bars are, the board is always gonna be flopping around (a little bit) since the nose is always gonna be hanging over. And with how secure the board carriers are, I never once worried about it.

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

Ahh good news then. Certainly appreciate your pics :)

I might still get a 2-wide though so I can put it on my other car if more people are going with me. Granted I only know like 2 people, but hey weirder things have happened.

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

Oh haha I know, though it would be quite comical! My other car is an Xterra. I just don't like to take it outta town much because the gas mileage is so horrendous. With the Prelude, I can drive all over the country to board (til I get it tuned) and get twice the mileage the X does.

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

its to dark for me to snap a pic tonight but here is the yakima stretch kit on my car. i only bought it bc you need it for a bike and kayak set up. it works by using your old clips and relocating them to the new q tower that is on the kit. the kit slides in length and hooks on the kit hold it to the front and rear cross towers. if ya need anything else let me know i can try and explain more to you if you need it. sorry about my bike and all the other things in the photo it was the closest one of the rack i had lol

and my fairing was the smallest one that yakima sold im not sure on the length prob 38 like posted before. also have the freshsesh board rack

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

Yours is DEF a 38", notice how both of ours are only like an inch away from the rain gutters. There's no way in hellllll yours is 6" narrower, 3" on each side.

BTW your second pic..... looks like you have a custom wide-body kit on the rear with that shadow; looks AWESOME!!!

Re: Need some pics of your roof rack!

Oh so with that stretch kit, there's still the 4 clamps but that side bar just extends it to the back, and the mount still rests in the 'rain gutters' on the rear one?
