help

I'm trying to wire my 92-93 fog light harness to an oem cruise control switch. I have seen some where on this board that it has been done and I'm trying to figure out how. If anyone has any info please let me know

Specifically what he's asking is how to wire up the fogs so he can use the CC switch to turn them on/off. Installing is pretty damn straight forward

Yes sir you are correct. I know that it can be done but I've looked up wiring schematics for both the fog harness and cruise harness and the cruise has 5 wires and the fog has 6 wires. I've been told that I can just throw an aftermarket switch into the circuit but I don't know which two wires to use to do that.

Re: help

this is what I've got so far.

From the CRUISE SWITCH PIGTAIL to the FOG HARNESS. (Fog connector was cut off)

Terminal 3 to terminal 6
terminal 5 to terminal 7
terminal 4 to terminal 2
terminal 2 to terminal 4 AND 3 (splice)
terminal 1 to terminal 5

I'm going to try this in the morning. What do you think?

As far as wire colors:

Cruise:
terminal 3 - red
terminal 5 - red/black
terminal 4 - black/red
terminal 2 - light green
terminal 1 - black

Fog harness:
terminal 4 - red/green
terminal 5 - black
terminal 2 - red/yellow
terminal 3 - orange
terminal 6 - red
terminal 7 - red/black

Re: help

Looks like that should do it, as long as the polarity is going to be correct with the "illumination" and "on indicator" circuits
and im guessing 1 & 3 are the grounds for them on the cruise switch ?
I dont know what the polarity is when it comes to the fogs,. I've scoured my manual and i found a reverse fog light and everything regarding it, lol but no fronts...

Re: help

i think that t1 on the cruise switch is a ground as well as t5 on the fog harness.

and the polarity thing... i'm not very sure about that since you mentioned it. I guess it's just going to take some trial and error before I get it right.

Hopefully this could help out other people lol

Good Luck with it, I'll stay tuned, and put up some pics !!

btw: ya with an LED I don't think it would matter... but here maybe it does... maybe someone with more experience can chime in ?

Fog grounds:

Cruise grounds:

you were right about saying that 1 and 3 for the cruise switch are grounds. What I meant was that I'll be putting 1(cruise switch) & 5(fog harness) together since they were grounds.

ahh, wow I feel rusty.. It's been so long, since I messed with electronics/schematics, thats why I was a little unsure. But once u got it, u got it !
Glad this got sorted out in one day.. Nice... Install shall commence.. And thread bookmarked for future reference.

Is it the 92-93 switch?

Today I hooked up the cruise to the fog harness and the lights did not turn on. I really think it's the relay malfunctioning. So I'm going to get another relay and if that doesn't work then I guess I will need a legit switch

I think you should be able to hear the relay click when it's activating, if it's activating..
Did the indicator light turn on ?

Re: help

the indicator light did not come on but the relay did make a click noise when i turned the button on and off.

the one thing I didn't check was the fuse in the fuse box under the dash, but I replaced it with a new one a few weeks ago when i was messing with them. I'll check tomorrow if that fuse is blown and if that doesn't work then I am just going to make a completely new harness.

Sorry to say that it isn't, it's the one that would fit where your cruise control sits now, or in front of your armrest.

Ya it sounds like you may have to make a new one, because the relay is working. Are you sure the lights work ? Have you tested them before ?

OK, so I just remembered to check the fuse, so I went outside and looked, and low and behold it's blown. It calls for a 15a fuse so I tried putting a 20 amp fuse in it and as soon as i pressed my rigged up cruise switch, the 20a fuse blew. so why would it be blowing fuses like that?

Re: help

I took an excerpt from here..

My car keeps blowing fuses. Should I install a... — Yahoo! Autos

If a fuse keeps blowing, it usually means something is amiss in the circuit. The wiring should be checked along with the components in the circuit to determine if there's a short or other problem.

The fuse for the windshield wiper circuit, for example, may blow if ice or debris builds up in the cowl areas and interferes with the movement of the wiper arms. If a fuse blows in a motor circuit (heater blower motor, cooling fan motor, power seat or window, electric fuel pump, etc.), it often indicates a shorted motor. If a fuse in a light circuit blows, look for wiring or connector shorts. Adding driving lights may also overtax the headlight circuit unless a separate circuit is provided for the driving lights. An A/C fuse will blow if the system is low on refrigerant and is working unusually hard, or if the compressor is hanging up. Stereo systems with high amp boosters should also have their own electrical circuit with fuse protection to avoid overloading the normal radio circuit.

lol yeah i read that same thing. I have no idea where to start though. I'm seriously wanting to get a completely new/aftermarket harness and just re wire the connectors on the fog lights instead of tracing down a short. I do have a fluke 179 so I guess it's time to put that to use
