Icon10 NEW MEMBER: Hi!!!

Hi folks,
I just bought a 1995 Honda Prelude VTEC and decided to join this forum because this forum looks helpful. I don't know much about cars but am able to do very simple maintenance like change oil. I know there will be jobs that I can't do on my own but I would like to do as much as I can and learn more about my car.
My car is stock and has about 189k miles. Leather interior still looks good for it's age. The engine, clutch, and transmission seems good to me. There are few little things wrong here and there (i.e. running lights, washer hose/line) that I'll be asking help for. I hope you folks can help me out.

Re: NEW MEMBER: Hi!!!

Considering that I'd like to keep the car stock, do you guys have any recommendations on what I should do first?
list to do:
1. replace hose/clamps connecting power steering pump and power steering reservoir (it's making a loud whiny noise specially when I turn my wheel and the power steering reservoir is bubbling so I assume air's going in there somehow.)
2. change oil

Change oil regularly and keep an eye on it. If it gets a little low, add some to keep it at the ideal level. Keep all fluids topped off especially transmission fluid.

Keep up on scheduled maintenance (timing belt, etc)

Fix everything immediately if it breaks. As dumb as this sounds, a friend of mine had a stuck caliper piston. As simple as it is to replace or fix, he let it go and went through brake pads quickly AND warped his rotor. So instead of a $50 fix, turned into a $200 fix.

Keeping your car washed in the winter helps too if it snows a lot and there is a lot of salt on the road. Salt is bad for your paint

Hope this helps! Welcome!

Re: NEW MEMBER: Hi!!!

Welcome to the site. Just make sure you keep up with scheduled maint, and I'm sure that will go a long way. Check you sprk plugs, wires, oil, it's a Honda so you know it will last

Re: NEW MEMBER: Hi!!!

what's epic is I got it for $1800 :D and it's completely stock...except for this toggle switch connected to two wires near the steering wheel and I don't know what it does.

Re: NEW MEMBER: Hi!!!

Welcome. I completely agree with getting things fixed and maintained ASAP. I have just dropped $3K in in the last few months on fixing things the previous owner could not manage to do. Honda Parts OEM 30% Off | No Tax!! Outside California | Honda Dealer Parts is a good place to get parts on line. There is a lot of info on this forum so take you time and do some searches for stuff.
