question about the stock air intake setup...

hi,

my friend told me that there is this box at the passenger bumper side that draws air from the outside to the air take. he says that that box is cover up and restricts air and he said the best thing to do is free it so more air to go through.

is that true?

if so how do i do it?

Icon14 Intake removal

its fairly easy man. You could either remove the splash guard under the fender well or pull it back to expose the intake box. The box is huge and restrictive. The problem with it is that it is not an actual air intake. The air in it recirculates and it lets very little fresh air in. I removed mine to accomidate my cold air intake and it took like 10 min tops. I hope this helps and good luck !!

right. there is one hose (maybe two... i don't remember) that runs to it. pull the hose(s), and plug the end that's in the engine bay. your car would also get louder, but whatever.

I just dremeled the entire front of the stock airbox off so that air would ram into the box, up through the pipes and hit the air filter.

i just took the air box completly out. there are like three bolts and a vacume hose. there is one bolt in the back that is kinda a pain to get at. just plug the end of the hose. u will have to take off the splash guard to get at it. i just left the little cone looking thing on that was on the air filter box that went through the bottom into the fender. it sounds deeper and louder but better

i would keep it unless u lock the hole that hoes thier or you get a by-passs system on your intake because water, puddles + ur intake = dead engine

i took the splash guard and the resonator (the box you're talking about) out without removing the wheel. seeing how you have a sri already, it's not going to get louder. i doubt you're going to see any gains taking it out.

I took out the entire airbox and used 3 inch dryer hose to route the intake from the bottom of the air filter box to a hole i cut in the front bumper. It doesn't look as good as a premade CAI, but it gets a LOT of fresh air, and it only cost about $10.

all of you have the right idea and they all work...as far as slick ludes set up its more of a ram air set up as opposed to the cold air that you would get by doing the air box mod under the fender...i went with the air box mod before i got my aem c.a.i and it worked pretty friggin good...but im not gonna hate on the ram air setup...its better than stock im sure...not as restrictive

but the cold air is bangin "the ****" if you will...lol...gave my car a nice GRRUUNNNT!!! and noticeable acceleration...i also like to hear the big gulp of air it takes when i throttle it...AND IT LOOKS GOOD...

i should be a salesman damnit LMAO

Yea all I did was go under the fender well, unbolted it, and plugged the VAAC line
