EFI University - Questions

Hey guys!

So I signed up for the EFI 101 class which will be starting in a couple of weeks, and I couldn't be more excited!! I am very eager to learn as much as possible, but unfortunately I know very little on "how to tune" (hence why I'm taking the class) but I do not want to go to the class without a basic understanding. I have read the boards on Crome and it's a little confusing. I would really appreciate some help from you guys. I want to learn how to use the Neptune program because I hear it is probably the best/affordable way of tuning out today.

What questions should I ask while I'm there?
What should I know before going to the class?
Is there any hardware/software that I should purchase?

Thanks in advance for all the help and information guys! I've been on this site for a few years now, so hopefully I won't get the "UGGGGHHHHH looser newb FAIL, SEARCH!!!!!" lol.

Re: EFI University - Questions

^ this.

there are few people that you can trust for tuning info on the boards, 98 vtec is one of them. there is a thread on PP about newb tuning, check it out.

I'll second what Ogs said. In case you want some more credibility for 98vtec, I recommend a peek at his Member's ride thread and all the things he has done to his lude.

Re: EFI University - Questions

Not to be too foward, you can ask Blake for tips on programming that the instructor can't dumb down. Don't go running to him for every little thing, just the frustrating stuff(if there's a difference, lol) you might want one of those handy digital cams (iflip from cisco) to record the classes over notebook.

Blake and I don't see eye to eye on everything, he is the man for tuning.

Who me? It's been a minute since I've gone to school. Just advice if he has an shoot from the hip teacher that just knows his/her stuff. I haven't owned a prelude since forever lol! I do know that if I got back in the world of preludes, I'd definitely pm you about a ecu. Too many cars in the heart of NYC already lol!

Re: EFI University - Questions

Thanks Blake!! I will try and educate myself to the fullest of my potential before asking "whats a chip???" hahaha! I do have a drive for working on cars, it's basically all I think about and want to do with my life. Not just a run of the mill mechanic, but more of an art form if you will. I have read and read and read tuns and tuns of material over the years and would consider myself a person who is capable of doing just about anything mechanically on a car, but now I am becoming more interested in the electronics of it all. I will be building my own wire harness as well as manifolds and I thought, why not take it a step further and tune it myself, as well as provide my capabilities to my community. I am also enrolled for welding school this year and upon completion will be going back to school for CAD and CNC.
Long term plans here, but really excited I'm off to a good start. Previously I had only hands on learning, meaning that I would just take it apart to learn how it worked, now I like to educate myself and actually know all the little parts and what they do. I know tuning will not be an overnight success as well as the welding and everything, but I am dedicated to this career path.

And tell me more about the Neptune and getting started with it. I DL'd Neptune already just in case I could use it for the class, along with crome (but reading through posts I will probably not spend any time with crome and soon delete it) I know there is some hardware that I will need to acquire like hulog, ostrich, wideband etc...
I'm still reading through the thread that hjdanzi started and it keeps getting better, and seeing as how you (Blake THE Mr.98vtec) inspired him and gave him pointers and he is already a success, I'm am excited and honored about this entire process and learning experience that I may receive from you and the thread and EFI.
