H22 swap into 97a accord

The title really isn't clear, but I'll explain. I already have an h22a in a 97 accord, but I was wondering what all I would need if I was to put a new h22 in it. I'm gonna have a local mechanic do it, but could he just use the old stuff and just take it out and put the new one in or what? Same generation engine to be put in. My current engine has too many problems, so I'm just gonna get a new one. I just need to know what all is necessary.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Re: H22 swap into 97 accord

So he could just put the longblock in and no other parts would be necessary? Where can you even get an h22 longblock at? Hmotors doesn't have any on their website.

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

That's helpful, but it doesn't really answer my question. I wanna know if all that has to be done again. Most of it is done to the actual car itself, so I would think not. Everything on the Accord has already been modified to fit an h22, but if I put a new one in, will any modifications need to be done or is it just drop in and plug in for me?

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

it depends what you want to change... do you wanna keep old tranny or get newer

HONDA H22A TYPE S OBD2 97-01 ENGINE 5 SPD LSD TRANS H22A MOTOR | eBay

there you go ;)

whatever you do, you should have money to get that engine opened and renew almost every seal/gasket and timing belt stuff, adjust valves, change piston rings, change crank bearings while you have that engine unmounted
(if you wanna do it properly)

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

I'd like to keep the current transmission for money reasons. It's still in good shape as far as I know. I just want to replace the engine cause it'll cost more to find out all the things wrong with it and fix them than it would to just get a new engine with less miles on it. And hmotors does have an h22 longblock, I just didn't look far enough. I need the ecu, too, so that would be a good deal for me. I know he can replace the long block without any problems, so my question now is, what else should I have replaced with it? Is there anything that's sorta necessary? Having to do with the motor, anyway. Lol

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

I don't see why you would need anything else if you already have the h22 swap in the accord.
You can get a new ecu from phearable.net (chipped, tuned, p28). Will cost about $200.

Would be a good idea to go ahead and get all the gaskets and timing done.
Good luck.

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

Do any of you guys happen to have a link to a list or something of all the gaskets? Or is there a kit I can buy that has all or some of them? I'm gonna replace the gaskets and timing belt and maybe a few other things with it.

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

i don't understand why you think it's so complicated. if you have an accord, with an h22 already, what else would you need to do if you just simply replaced it? (besides gaskets and seals but that's a given.) Just get a long block, and yes they are out there for <$1000, and then take your alternator, power steering, a/c, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, fuel rail, throttle body and etc and just swap them over.

Re: H22 swap into 97a accord

I just wanted to be sure. It would suck if I brought my car there and the engine's out and everything and we realize that we had to do something else that I don't have the money for or he doesn't know how to do. So I got the longblock down now, I just gotta get the other stuff before I can go on with it. Now I'm in the process of making sure I got all the gaskets and stuff before I take the car in and it's all changed.

And my car doesn't have ac or ps. Does anyone know where I can get the whole ps system? I've looked online and in junkyards and can't find it anywhere.
