Icon5 Heat only on dash?

I just got a 93 Lude with H22A. The heater only blows on the dash defrost. It has plenty of temperature to it. I know a little about how the blend doors and all work. I looked around the forums but did not see anything. Just wondering of there is a common issue with the 4th gens that I should start with?

Re: Heat only on dash?

remove the motor i described below... with the motor out try moving that piece that motor was meant to move. maybe it's stuck. second before you hack away at the motor try putting 12v to it and test the motor.

if you look through from the driverside behind the gas pedal like right behind where the radio but look towards the firewall... there's a small motor that turns the flap that controls where the air is blowing too ( feet, defrost, vent ) well anyways that's what's prob locked up on you. my car sat for almost four years before it came to me and it was locked up too at defrost. i took the thing apart cleaned it up regreased it and it worked. but i remember it was tricky and had to do some soldering to where the motor is because i wasn't gentle with it and broke the tabs off the lil motor inside. i believe you could pick it up cheap from someone who's deleted their entire ac and heat including the duct to reduce weight. or since you're at it anyways just give it a try and if you break it buy one then.

Re: Heat only on dash?

My "climate controll" is messed too.
Got a 92 S, and i can change it from hot to cold, and all the fan speeds. but rear de-frost along with the buttons to swap to legs/body/window etc dont work.
Its stuck on the front windshield wich aint bad especially because its winter but i need to fix it asap for winter.

Anyone have a link for how to get Just the climate contoll out? Also the cover? I found a few articles, but i cant figure out how to pop off the 3 top peices tht hold the cover for the climate controll off.

Thanks for the video! Im sure that will help out a few people.

Re: Heat only on dash?

I has a 93 lude with a similar issue, it will change from defrost to the feet but will only half way change to blowing on your face, it will keep blowing on your feet too, so it basically seems like it stays on the feet/face mode and wont go to str8 face mode(lol face mode).
interesting thing i noticed too is that if i set the temperature on high and then change it to cold air i seem to get more power on the face vents.

Re: Heat only on dash?

you guys just need to take out the climate control unit and resolder the connections on the board as shown in the video. many people have had this problem and i would say a rough estimate of 80% of people solved their issue with resoldering those points. I've never heard of anything mechanically going wrong with the said issue.

Re: Heat only on dash?

Yeah, I really want to do this. def worth a shot at trying to salvage mine. I can reach up and press the plug in, make it light up. Though when it does the buttons that select where it comes from still do nothing, nor does the rear defroster work, but like i said worth a shot at fixing it for the price of free

Re: Heat only on dash?

None of the lights come on, so I am going to try taking it apart and soldering it on Tuesday, my next day off. Will let you know what happens.

Ok, well that is a key sign that those points on the circuit board have cracked from old age therefore do not work anymore.

Thats great to hear I need to do mine also. Was it difficult to get it out? The soldering will be no problem as I do it in parts of my job but I hate wrenching on cars.
