Looking to Boost.

Hi all,

As you can see new to this forum!

Just a quick synopsis of the plan!

Buying a Jap Import 92 2.2DOHC VTEC Lude. Will be stripping down to near chassis and also rebuilding the engine hopefully into a Booster!

Now this is a venture with me and another buddy of mine and whilst i understand the workings engines there's things i don't know. I'll be reading up as much as i can but some things take hours to find as they're sometimes worded differently to us over here in the UK!

Now I've been researching with boosting and of course low boosting with a standard block with 240k Kilometers is stupid it seems! So we've decided we'll rebuild the block. I've done a lot of reading research and seen these Mahle pistons which i looked into further to find they're not that great and only last a max of around 30k which is far from good enough for me! I've yet to research further into Sleeving (darlhton sleeves ? etc) but I'm trying to gather as much info on a subject as a whole before i look into the separate sections such as sleeving the block/turbo size/ECU

Right now I'm looking at the ECU section and seen that a Hondata S100 should be suffice as from what I've read the S200/300 just add little perks ? All I'm after is a tune/remap to so the cars running sweet then i wont be doing any more tuning

Now from i gather, the ECU has a OTW(One time write) Eeprom fitted so your essentially cannot remap a standard ECU which is where the S100 comes into play ? This allows someone to plug into the OBD1 Socket and either Live map, Or download a new map onto the ECU. Am i also right that the S100 can be supplied with a base map which will allow me to carefully drive to a tuners to Map the car properly ?

No doubt as i search deeper into the depths they'll be more questions that i struggle to find the answers to!

And i hope that you lot can see that I'm not a spoon fed person and enjoy(to some extent) to do the research! Also, People will see my birth date and just assume I'm some kid who wants turbo a car without researching anything or knowing what he's doing!

Well i hope to become somewhat of a fixture to this forum and eventually helpers others like (hopefully) i was once helped!

Thanks!

Dan.

Re: Looking to Boost.

Welcome to PZ community, 90% of All the boost questions you have have been answered under the FI section. Any other questions or if need reference to anything id be glad to help.
As for the S100 Coming with a basemap, From my understanding Unless your dealer specifies that they have burned you a basemap, they more than likely send you a blank ROM.

Re: Looking to Boost.

Excellent! I'll take a look at the FI section!

So if i get this write, The S100 completely overrides the stock ECU Eeprom ?

If this is the case then its a tow to tuner job unless i can get hold of a pre tuned one ?

Re: Looking to Boost.

Hi all again,

I finally have the car and am in the process of stripping it down.

From what I've read/researched I'll be looking a a T3/T4 Hybrid turbo setup.

Now with turbo's... I see there are cheap china ones for like 160 and then there are Garret and Turbonetics ones that are like 650.

Is there ONLY difference here quality and i believe the option of needle roller bearings ?

Here are some cheeky photo's for now

Re: Looking to Boost.

Invest in a good turbo. I recently bought a garrett t3/t4 60-1 turbo and compaired it to my buddys cheap ebay turbo he has in his integra and u can just tell the diffrence in quality alone. Can wait to put that sucker in my lude.

Re: Looking to Boost.

Interesting. Looks like i may save for a decent branded turbo rather than the China stuff!

Well, Hopefully with a month the engine will be out and being sent of to be sleeved/Honed/Decked(sp?)! Gonna be expensive at around 600 :(

Re: Looking to Boost.

Right I've decided on the T3/T4 Hybrid turbo.

Now I'm sure I'm reading this right, But the Turbo I'm looking at has an Internal waste gate however all the manifolds I've seen have a mounting for an External Waste gate.

Now can i Either covert to an external waste gate or can i just block the external waste gate mount on the manifold ?

Cheers All

What trim turbo is it? T3T4 doesn't tell much.

Remember though, I'm over in the UK. So that more than likely about $750/$850

Re: Looking to Boost.

Hi all.

Well we've decided not to build the engine, Just rebuild it and turbo it.

Somewhere i remember reading about some aftermarket pistons that can be used on the stock bore(non sleeved) but may obviously require a hone if its badly damaged!

Do i remember right and these were made by JE-Pistons ?
