My 'lude is driving me crazy. No pun intended.

So, I'm having an issue with my '93 Prelude S. It's an automatic with the f22a1 engine (yeah yeah, I know...) But the main problem is that it's been sputtering and backfiring like crazy and I have no idea why. It's especially bad when the engine is still cold. Right at 3000 rpms, it starts sputtering and cutting out violently until it shifts, then happens again at 3000rpms. Once it's at normal operating temperature it seems to ease a bit, but that's when the backfiring starts every time I let off the accelerator. I've replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, catalytic converter and the egr valve in an effort to solve this with absolutely no success what-so-ever. Does anyone have any other ideas as to what this might be? Any help would be appreciated.

i would have to say its electrical. the timing belt might be out of specs the distributor might jst b timed wrong, the wires might b switched. does it leak oil from the dizzy? any corrosion on the coil? once an engine warms up the timing is changed

no check engine light?

Well, it's an interference engine so if the timing was off, it'd be ****ed. I've checked the wires and they're all correct. No corrosion either. The check engine light is on, but throws an EGR code.
