Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

Ok so I've searched and found nothing, background it's a 93 with the h22, 245k on the odo, meticulously taken care of by an old woman previously to me owning it, so here's my issue, after driving alot when my engine is fully warm it starts to overheat when either idling or driving slow both fans kick on when the 4th bar lights up and then the 5thand 6th bar light up and then the fans turn off and the gauge goes bact to the center.. Recent things replaced: timing belt, balance shaft belt, crank seal, cam seals, water pump, valve adjust, plugs wires cap and rotor, thermostat, fan switch and obviously coolant, used only Honda parts.... Any suggestions??

D id you bleed the cooling system? Make sher all the air is out of the system. Have you replaced your radiator? If your rad is good it can be the cap aswell.

Did you install the thermostat right? Umm maybe radiator crapped out on you? This is very strange... any one else have any clues?

Yes ironically I work at a Honda dealership, all parts were installed by one of our best techs... There having a hard time figuring out what's wrong as well... When it's overheating I popped the hood and nothing is boiling over or anything

Re: Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

try looking at the temp sensor. I've read that the wires have burned or gotten frayed and it causes weird temp readings. I think a new one is like $30 so if it looks at all damaged try that...

Re: Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

if you work at a stealership, don't the tech's have an IR temp gun? it could very well likely be just a faulty gauge, and the engine isn't actually overheating.

Re: Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

change the coolant temp sensor and engine coolant sensor and i think another sensor is a fan switch

I'm going to try the thermo gun next, both hoses are fine and are not collapsed, and the wiring harness is in perfect shape

Also what are the symptoms of overheating? Wouldn't the rad. Be boiling over and the engine stumbling?

Re: Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

Update: I drove it around for a while waited for it to "overheat" and pointed a thermo gun at the aluminum piece that the upper radiator hose attaches to the head and the highest reading I got was 190 degrees farenheight

Re: Need rth!!! 93 si overheating issue nightmare!

If it's saying it's overheating, yet is found to still be running at normal operating temperature, it could very well be the coolant temp sensor giving wrong readings. My 93 Prelude S does the same thing actually. If you figure it out, let me know lol.

I have a IR temp gun from work too. Where should I point it at?

At the aluminum inlet pipe on the upper rad. Hose, the part that attaches it into the head
