Engine Chugs, Loses Power

So the last couple of days, when I've been driving for awhile, my car has been chugging, the gas pedal will stop making the engine rev, and then dies. I changed the distributor about 6 months ago. New cap, rotor, plugs, and wires today. I drove it about 10 minutes and it chugged and lost power, so I put it in neutral and revved it, it backfired and then was fine. I definitely felt little tiny surges after. I've been looking stuff up and I see something about the primary 02 sensor and my dad thinks its the ignition coil. I have no CEL on. Any ideas?

Have you check your valve timing? What engine and chasis model Lude do you have?

Re: Engine Chugs, Loses Power

I've got a 92 Si with an H22A swap. I bought the car with about 10k on the swap and I've put about 10k on it myself, and this is the first engine trouble I've had. I have not checked the valve timing. It doesn't happen all the time, which I would think it would if it was a timing problem. The idle sounds great. The ignition coil isn't bolted to the motor like it should be, but it was like that when I bought it. I really thought a tune up would fix it, and other then the coil, I'm at a loss.

Re: Engine Chugs, Loses Power

Try jumping the two pin connector under the passenger dash just in case there's something stored in the ECU even though you said you have no CEL.

Re: Engine Chugs, Loses Power

I jumped the connector, got my ABS code finally, but the CEL never came on. I've got a P13 ecu, so it's the right one at least.

Also, a blue wire and a green wire that are coming out of the ECU are cut off. It must have been like that since i bought it, because this is the first time I've looked at the ecu.

Re: Engine Chugs, Loses Power

maybe TPS?

i know my tps came loose once, and it caused choking and made the gas pedal not do anything, but the car did idle and not stall. im thiking if maybe the TPS is defective inside, it might possibly do this and stall the car out...

Re: Engine Chugs, Loses Power

Turned out to be the ignition coil. Easy cheap fix.
