h23vtec question

hey guys, so starting to buy all the parts i need for my h23vtec build. i picked up an h22 head the other day stamped with a p13 code. well my question is how do i know the year or model that head came off of? lets say its obd1 would would i need to get an obd1 block or would it work with an obd2? or does any of that mater at all? as long as i have a matching ecu and harness would i be fine? i haven't bought the ecu or harness yet by the way. please enlighten me, id appreciate it.

Re: h23vtec question

all you need to make sure is that you get the proper head gasket and I think that is based on your block. if it has an a4 at the end, you will need the 5th gen gasket because it is open deck. anything thats closed deck will take the older gasket but the heads are interchangeable.

Re: h23vtec question

I did some research on doing this swap and the problem I had was you have to change the bottom end of the h23 because the barrings and crank cannot take the high rpms that the h22 vtech puts out so its almost worth just putting a h22 if you want a vtec h motor
