No start if wheels not straight?

Weird issue - if I park with the wheels turned, there is a very good chance the car won't start until I get them straight again. Not a sure thing, but I'd take the bet... It's a 93 Prelude Si, stock.

Any clues as to why?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: No start if wheels not straight?

Are you sure that it's not just the steering wheel lock mechanism?

Re: No start if wheels not straight?

Probably the steering lock like previously mentioned. Do you have to jerk the wheel around or hold it in a certain position to turn the key over? Steering lock was designed to help prevent criminals from stealing your car. More difficult to steal something you can't steer.

Re: No start if wheels not straight?

Not sure I can say it's not the steering lock-out, but I thought that the steering wheel lock was to prevent the *key* from turning. In my case, the key turns and the starter cranks and cranks until the wheels are in line (pointed forward).

I do get a bit of belt screech if there's been a dew in the morning, but it's so infrequent I haven't addressed it. Part of me wanted to say it's the PS belt/pully/pump but I just can't believe any problem there'd prevent engine start-up...

Thanks for the replies.

Chris

Re: No start if wheels not straight?

That's really weird. Maybe there's a wire tangled in the steering column?
