How to do a h23, h22 head

Ok i have the h23 si and wanting some more power out of it, I herd about putting a h22 vtech head on the h23 bottom end, but what is all in tailed with doing this, what are the exact parts I will need and how much power gain do I get. Also is it worth putting a h22 vtech tranny in cuz my h23 tranny has real short gears, it is fast up to 60 but acts like it need another gear.

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

im going to do the same thing, if i were you id do a bit a google-ing.
but as far as i know you will need
h22 head with all internals of course
h22 hardware
h22 crank gear
h22 timing belt
h22 tensioner
h22 water pump
h22 spark plugs and wires
h22 ecu and harness (if you dont want to splice some wires for vtec)
and you will need to get your crankshaft balanced
as far as power goes you im not too sure but i assume it would yield similar power as the h23 blue top
i suggest looking into some h22 pistons also
i mihgt have missed some stuff so anybody feel free to correct me

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

by revving it like an h22 do you mean taking it up too 7.5k rmp's? if so what would the ideal red line be?

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

there are tons of threads on this, and has been done in almost every combination. The best advice I have seen anywhere is build/upgrade the block with better bearings.

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

OK thanks for the good feed back, but to better get a understanding of this h23/h22 deal what would be the best bang for your buck, for a daily driver, what I don't like about the h23 is one the tranny is short geared and red line is 6k, I would like some more power. I was thinking of just doing a small (8-11 lbs boost) turbo with stock internals, What do you think about havin the head worked (port & polish).

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

well if you want turbo you can go f22 block/h22 head since those walls are iron and can handle 8-11 psi

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

Or just stick with the f22 and boost it. Just make sure to tune it with whatever you decide to do that isnt stock

Re: How to do a h23, h22 head

Probably the h22 head swap, but it will cost more and not be as reliable.
