Burning oil

i have a 92 prelude and smoke comes out of the tailpipe after idleing a few minutes then hiting the gas and iv went threw like 5 quarts of oil with in about 3000 miles or more and i always have to wash black stuff of the back of my car think its the valve stem seals?

if it happens only at start up then its bad valve seals but in your case its bad piston rings it happens to all of us bud. :(

yeah if it idles for a while then give it some gas u get a big puff of smoke it dose'nt seem to do it going down the road but im going threw a lot of oil will it hurt anything if i just keep the oil up and drive it a lil while until i fix it?

the only thing its gonna further hurt is you pocket book lol. I'm sure you will be fine as long as you keep it lubricated and when you go for new rings you might need to get the walls looked at to see if any damage was made.

ok well it seems to run fine and everything iv been just keeping oil in it and iv been driveing it like this sence april

I'm not saying that something major WON'T happen, but you don't need to have the attitude "eh, it will be ok as long as I keep putting oil in it" b/c something major COULD happen or it may not. either way, your gambling your motor the longer you put this off.

what would be the best way to test for bad piston ring, compression or leak down test???

Check the compression on the motor if its a lot lower than the specs its ur rings
