Black gunk in coolant overflow tank.

Was curious the other day and started to check all fluid levels when I noticed the reservoir was completly empty except for the fact that it was filled with about 2 ounce's worth of coarse mud like crap! Fearing it was oil I immediatly check the coolant in the radiator. Fluid was clean as can be, then I unplug the upper hose and can't see any contamination in the fluid whats so ever. I ended up removing the reservoir and rinsing out he gunk with water and letting it sit with super clean/ bleach mix for a day and a half. Brushed the inside of the bitch with a flexible air vent brush to the best of my abilities, but the tank looks like it's permanently stained or the brush I'm using isn't able to get to all the curves within the tank. Should I just get a new overflow tank?? or do I have bigger issues here to worry about?

Re: Black gunk in coolant overflow tank.

maybe all the gunk and grime around the cylinder walls went into it. I would highly suggest a fluid flush and bleed. Then a GOOOD seafoam cleaning in the gas tank, oil and pcv.

I want to say it smelled like automotive joint grease/water mixture?? It didn't smell like oil at all.

Yeah, I'm planning on flushing out the system soon and I'll try that seafoam stuff again. I poured some in the gas tank only a few weeks ago to clean out my injectors.
