Re: Cluster Removal??

you have to search, its on here somewhere I think.
try the DIY section.
but to answer your question, no you don't have to take out the dash to remove the clusters.

Re: Cluster Removal??

Not even close.

Disconnect your negative battery cable.

Pull your tweeter covers.

Remove the little rubber trim at the bottom of your gauges.

Remove the top bezel (little screws angled in).

Remove the little divider between the speedo/tach and fuel/temp (1 screw at the top.

Unscrew the screws on either side of both clusters. Should also be 1 on top of the fuel/temp.

To get the speedo/tach, it seems easier to push it upward and slide the bottom out towards your self.

For the fuel/temp, use a flathead while pulling to free it from the metal clips at top. I then used a long flathead against the bottom lip to pop it upwards.

Unclip the harness and tah-dah.

There may be a few issues because I'm going off of memory.

I'm not responsible if I'm wrong either, lol.

Happy hunting.

Re: Cluster Removal??

I don't think I should be replying to a 3-4 year old comment, but can someone show me a link to the write ups with pics? I can't seem to find a way to get my clusters off...

Re: Cluster Removal??

If you have a copy of the shop manual (the Helms manual -- look for a link in the DIY section), it's illustrated there. And look at the "similar threads" below.

Use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to pop the tweeter covers loose. Carefully peel back the rubber trim at the bottom of the cluster, starting from one end. Everything is more visible and pretty easy after that. Be careful when pressing in on screw heads -- the plastic tabs they're screwed into can be brittle after 15-20 years.
