Another quarter panel thread

I did a search but didn't find anything on this approach, so...

Eventually, I'll need to patch both rear quarter panels on my son's '92 Prelude. Since we all know new replacement rear sheet metal is not readily available (and all the bone yards in the area don't have any), I'm looking at grafting patch panels for a 92-95 Civic Hatchback to the rear quarters on a Prelude.

I can pick up new Civic panels for under $40 each and maybe with a bit of metal work, get them to fit.

I've done quarter panel replacements before, but not when using panels from a different model. Does this sound doable?

Re: Another quarter panel thread

you can use front fenders as patch panels on the 92-96 preludes. the right front fender will work to patch the left quarter panel and vise versa. i believe there is a thread explaining it more on honda-tech.com

Re: Another quarter panel thread

FWIW, I took measurements off the front and rear wheel openings and the idea that a front fender can be used to replace a rear quarter is not all that straight forward or easy.

Using the bumper covers as a gauge line, snappping a straight line across the wheel opening shows that the front wheel has a chord length of 21" and is 4" below the top of the wheel arch. The same measurements on the rear show a chord length of 17" and 3" to the top of the wheel arch. In other word, if you cut the wheel arch from a front fender, it will be about 2" too short to fit the rear quarter.

Also, the rear half of the front fender wheel arch slopes rearward whereas the front half of the rear wheel opening is near vertical.

At best, portions of a front fender can be used to patch a rear quarter.
